I can’t even put my finger on why I like it, I think it’s that it’s so bad it’s good.

It’s The Room of cars!

Yes. I cant believe GM made the SSR. Money could’ve been spent elsewhere on more important vehicles of the time.

It’s a sports car that can still go to home depot without a problem. Everyone wants a ute and they get one and hate it. Id like to have it.

They could’ve just... you know... imported the Ute. We already had the GTO (Monaro) on our shores in that era.

I want one too. I’d upgrade the interior a bit, put on a kinda rumbly exhaust, and then let the haters start hatin. THe only weak point of the SSR with the 6.0L V8 is the interior. I said it. GM sucked hard at interiors and couldn’t put in a halfway decent interior to save their lives. But if somehow you could put in a nicer wheel, a better looking center console, and maybe slightly better seats? It’d be pretty badass. I wonder how much of the 9-7x you could bolt in there. That or a ranier.

I’d be fine with that but whats the problem with the SSR?

There was a dude on Oppo who had one... Not sure if they're still around though

Mainly the looks department. I think the front end design absolutely ruins the rest of the truck (which I’ll admit has nice curves). The SSR is simply just too heavy and the GMT360 isnt exactly the “sportiest” platform to begin with.

Im okay with it. Just make a custom bed cap. That would be pretty awesome. Panel Van SSR.

The later ones have an LS2/ T56 six speed combo. I’m down with that.

400 HP, RWD, a 6-speed, a folding hard top, and a truck bed really doesn’t seem like a bad combination at all.

Problem is that it’s tiny but somehow weighs 4700 pounds. For something that small it should be a good 1000 pounds less, or, if you’re going to put up with that much weight it should have the utility of an actual truck.

Good:

390-400hp LS2 for ‘05 and ‘06

T-56 manual was available

CONVERTIBLE EL CAMINO

Kinja'd!!!

Bad:

Polarizing styling (I actually like it just paint the silver grill in a matching body color)

Heavy, 4,701 pounds heavy

Option: Hardtop convertible ute with an easily-modifiable pushrod-LS motor and a proper manual? Hell yes...just gotta modify the body to look less cheap.

I like it too, especially the roof mechanism. You’d think that a folding metal roof would take up a lot of room, but not this one!

No. But it's not quite as sporty as you'd think. This is a cruiser, not a corvette truck. It was built on the trailblazer frame, that means it is a smooth ride and somewhat strong.

I remember when those came out. I tried one at the Chicago Auto Show and absolutely hated it. The interior was terrible and the seats were not comfortable. I didn’t mind the exterior though. I miss when car makers would do crazy designs and put them out not knowing if they would work or not.

If I am getting a pickup convertible, it will be this. 4WD, Manual 5-speed, top down on a sunny day... Perfection.
