The 1996 Renault Fiftie!

Loved this little thing when they showed it. It deviated from Le Quement’s 90s-era Frenchy-Geometric-Deco agenda, owing more to nostalgia and self-reference than serious futurism, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 4CV.

Inside, the Fiftie perpetuated the utilitarian spirit of the Post-War French car biz: the floor and sills were covered in linoleum. The emphasis on simplicity was underlined by the use of two pedal controls that, along with the steering wheel, were adjustable because the seats were fixed.

The doors contained pockets and were lined with woven rattan. Like your favorite lawnchair. It made a pleasing visual contrast with parts of the aluminium chassis that were exposed to view. The theme was underlined by a period accessory in the form of a woven picnic basket (you can see it peeking through the backlight, up there.

And how does it have that nice, flat floor, and exposed aluminum chassis, there? Because it was built with carbon fibre panels on this chassis:

Yep, those intakes on the side are for those mid-engined Sport Spyder’s guts. Bet it was a lot of fun.
