My girlfriend is looking at a 2007 Volvo C30 with the NA 2.4i engine. I know a few Oppos have C30s, so I thought I’d ask about them. How are they for reliability?

My understanding is that they’re pretty good, since they’re the EU Focus / Mazda 3 underneath.

This is one’s in great condition. 55,000kms on it, with the auto.

Lancia Stratos for your time.

2.4s are fairly reliable. Just pray that you don’t get any electrical gremlins.

Had one left it bulletproof about 50,000 miles on top of 30,000 miles when I bought it.

I had the turbo 2.5; i would get one again in a second.

My wife wants one too. I’ve never heard any gripes as far as reliability goes with them.

I have the same question since we’re picking up a 2.4i V50 next week...

Mechanically they are fairly sound. Electrical issues can rear their ugly heads depending on wear and tear.

I had a turbo and got the Polestar bump. It was pretty reliable. In the time I owned it I got one code which was for the MAF. Luckily my mechanic had seen that before and knew that it’s not the MAF but the fuel flow sensor. Fun car and unique to own.

Saw C30 in the title, rushed here as fast as I could. We have two in the family (both T5s), my 2009 R-Design and my mom’s 2013 Polestar. I’ve put almost 30,000 miles (48,000 km) on mine (60k miles, 96,000 km total) in the 3.5 years I’ve had it and the Polestar has 12,000 miles (19,000 km) on it now.

Mine has had the *most* troubles, but they are all very minor. My battery died one winter and it was determined to be a defective battery. A tube for the air filter was a little misaligned and was easily fixed. Recently, both my licence plate bulbs burnt out. Other than those extremely minor issues, both cars have been completely trouble free.

I haven’t heard much about the 2.4i in the C30/S40/V50, but I wouldn’t have any concerns about it.

Try to have it serviced at a Volvo dealer. Most problems I hear stem from having repairs done at an outside shop, like Jiffy Lube. The most common bad problem is having excess camber on the rear wheels and the car will eat through tires in a few thousand miles.

Awesome, thanks! Super jealous of the ‘09 T5 R-Design. If I could spec one, that would be it.

Jealous of your R Design and mom’s Polestar! So, hers isn’t just tuned is it? It’s one of the killer limited editions?

Yep it’s one of the limited editions, #230/250. I was eyeing it when it went on sale November 2012. Come that February, nobody had bought it and the dealership had it on a $3,500 special. My mom was in the market to replace her S80 and I was pushing her towards the S60 R-Design, but she liked my car and wanted a C30 as well. It made more sense to buy the cheaper Polestar, so that’s what we ended up with!

Well if she ever decides that its just to much power for her I will gladly trade her my 08 T5! No strings attached!
