Tell me what I should do with my money and spend $30ish-K on.
TLDR my year of being underpaid at a start up is almost over and I just started applying for new jobs. Will be making more money so new car is not that far off.
*keep in mind my last 2 cars are a Crossfire and SC400

Happy Birthday! Have some cake!

Boom. Fast, reliable, fun, and absolutely less than $30k.
Option 2: The Z4 M Coupe. Because look at it. That is drop dead gorgeous.

Happy Birthday man I hope you enjoy it! I say a certified pre owned off lease 228i with M sport package! Unless you are done with coupes.

Is a vert a necessity? If not, how about a CPO 1M?

something something something miata
but really, a wrx

Used CTS-V. Or maybe be weird and hunt down one of the last stick shift IS 250s. Mod support is low but I bet it will still drift.

ND miata. Or if you want a more Gran tourer, you may be able to negotiate a hardtop NC to 30k.
(Serious suggestion)

Another SC400 because V8.

Ahh the hipster in me just couldn't take owning a Corvette. Respect it and without a doubt see the appeal, I just eh. That Z4 M though …. I need a moment.

Don’t spend 30K before getting new job. Then also don’t spend it until you are certain that you’ll stick around there. Is there any sort of probationary period where they can terminate your employment for a number of months (say up to 3 months) where you live?

Happy birthday
The awnser will always be, Caged Civic.

Certainly not done with coupes, I’d just like to try convertible life. I’ve been debating NA or turbo for the Z4 though … and that also goes for the 2 series.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 11:13 |

You can get the latest Vs for that cheap? I guess they’ve been out for a while. That HP jump might kill me though. A used Lexus is probably a smart choice vs BMW.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 11:14 |

ND is really high on my list …. as in #2 in my head right now. On that topic though I’ve been told the Fiata is “worth waiting for” so I’ll probably be holding out for its fall reveal.

Those are $30ish-k? Damn. But nothing is a necessity, my preferences are:
Preferably RWD
Preferably 2 door
Preferably vert
Preferably manual

10/10 comment, would read and star again.

Jalopnik logic says you should buy 3 V70R’s with a collective 670k miles, a wrecked 80’s 911 without engine or suspension and an old Alfa with more rust than paint (and missing engine)
happy bday!

Buy a expensive car you couldn’t otherwise afford of your choice in project condition for around 20k and use what’s left of your budget to buy some daily driver.

Certainly am waiting for new job this end of summer/fall. Hell I’ll probably beat on the Crossfire for another winter and buy in the spring. As far as I know (personal and friends that have gotten jobs) there aren’t really timed contracts in the design community. That way either side can terminate without hard feelings.
*contracts are more you’ll be quite about you’re working on, not “you’ll stay here for at least a year”.

I thought the answer is always miata?!

Corvette with Corsa Exhaust
Z4 M with Eisenmann exhaust.

Holy comprehensive! But uh I’m more of a mod-the-exhaust-and-leave-the-rest-alone kind of guy.

Not in my book.

Nah, rebuild an AW11 into a track monster. The 2ZZ engine is rock solid puts out about 180 hp, and revs to almost 9000. You’re looking at a seriously fast little car with this build. I forgot wheels and tires. Factor in another grand or so for those.

Okay, apparently I’m an idiot. Don’t listen to me. The 1m seems to be going for double. I ASSumed that since they were in the mid 40s when new they’d be in the 30s now. Apparently not even close.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 11:45 |

This has certainly crossed my mind and I am not opposed to it.
I’d love the shit out of that driveway.

Happy birthday! And why not a Crossfire SRT-6?
![]() 06/11/2015 at 11:52 |

Everytime I say nah about corvette/mustang/camaro/challenger I hear a V8 and I question everything ….. manual RWD V8s are a dying breed.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 11:53 |
|
Honestly chuckled out loud at your “nah”. Guess I’ll have to do it now.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 11:53 |

You could also go with just a C5 or C6 convertible (Sidenote - this is one of my favourite videos of all time).
![]() 06/11/2015 at 11:54 |
|
I want new experiences! And also want to try manual life, SRT6’s are auto only.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 11:55 |

That thing screams class …. not sure I’m classy enough for it.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 11:56 |

Friend already has a V70R. Im too hipster to put another one in the group. Will look into the engineless 911 though.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 11:56 |

There’s also a beefy as shit and more tunable inverted strut available for it for a sick rally build. More expensive, but probably worth it.

These scream #YOLO …. but makes me wonder how cheap 3rd gen Vipers are now ….
Would probably kill myself though.

There’s only one way to find out, right?

Ha no worries …. those things were classics right when they left dealer lots.

228i M Sport Vert! Do it!!! Manual, light, RWD, fun!
![]() 06/11/2015 at 12:39 |

I could never change the factory C5 Z06 exhaust, it is too perfect a noise.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 13:08 |
|
But the Z4 looks sooooo much better.
Not that the 2 series is bad, it just can’t compete on proportions and I clearly don’t need a backseat.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 13:10 |
|
It does look better you’re right about that!
![]() 06/11/2015 at 13:21 |

Damn that sounds great. A C6 is definitely on my test drive list, wouldn’t dare rule it out.

Rally is on my to do list …. someday, someday …..
![]() 06/11/2015 at 13:25 |

Valid, but in all honesty I think this is as old as I would go . That Packard is gangster as hell, but not my style.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 13:27 |

WRX’s are great but too practical imo ….. yes thats my reasoning.
![]() 06/11/2015 at 13:29 |

Well, there are perfectly gangster 30s-40s cars other than Packards, many of which you can still get parts for.

Z4M coupe or roadster.. The S54 is a gem and sounds amazing. The newer Z4’s look great too.

I’ve actually been contemplating one of these as a replacement for the 360. I’ve always wanted a Viper and they seem to be a bit more reliable and less to maintain than the 360, plus, theres a fairly good aftermarket for these.
![]() 06/12/2015 at 09:33 |

happy birthday.
![]() 06/12/2015 at 10:46 |

Damn that was fast! I wouldn’t doubt it being more reliable, that has to be the least stressed 500hp ever. The Viper was my dream car in the 90’s … I’ll always love the thing.
