Because now I have a slight desire for one of these.

Seems like they’ve already reached “collector” status, as the prices on most of them are much more than the sum of its parts.

Old trucks are becoming desirable. I wonder if my truck will ever be worth something. Its in pretty decent shape and I plan to restore/mod (mostly restore) it myself, plus its pretty well optioned. Maybe it will be, but I guess I cant count on it

Why does it have fender skirts? They look really weird in a truck.

I’d say those haven’t reached collector status at all. Trucks were so mass produced that I’d say they mainly won’t be reaching collector status. Cool and old? Maybe, but Collector status? Probably not, this one may be an exception though.

Not dirty enough. You haven’t been in NC long enough to think that’s what we drive. Doesn’t even have to be dirty like mine, just not showroom condition. That truck is ruined and will never do work again.

Wrong generation. These are the ones reaching collector status.

I would like an older work truck to build. But for now I’ll keep my 24 mpg toyota 4x4.

I wouldn’t hold my hopes too high. The Ranger will probably follow the same path older small captive import pickups are going. Maybe they will be worth considerable amount of money someday but it will take time.

Currently you can buy even the most desirable (special edition, mint original condition, low miles) 70’s small trucks for <$7k.

Pull the fender skirts and drop in a 454 with a TH400, and I’ll DD it in Texas.

<$7k unless they're a first-gen Bronco, that is. I'm almost afraid to mention what a mint Ranger package Bronco goes for...

Yes, but I specifically meant small pickup trucks. There are many 70’s suv’s and bigger trucks that cost a pretty penny.

Even VW type 2 trucks can apparently be had for <$7k in not-terrible conditions, which I admit surprises me. I had to go check.

My truck is the most desirable trim of the non special rangers. Its an XLT 4 liter 5 speed with lowish miles, no rust, AC, a limited slip diff, and its very well documented. That being said, if I keep it nice, I doubt I could ever get more than 6k for it in my lifetime. But thats still double what I payed or it

But to achieve that you must keep it for 10 or more years. Do you think you will?

The transmission on mine and had to be rebuilt. Outside of that its only been wear items or aftermarket parts failing (specifically several Holley carbs Edelbrock for life now). It’s a ‘79 and I’ve owned it for 14 years.
