I thought that top rendering looked familiar... this is the Rondeau M379B that won Le Mans in 1980 for comparison. Also similar to some Renault/Alpine contenders in the late 60’s.

I think the tail in the top picture is making reference to the 908 Langheck.

The flaps on the langheck were active, if I recall correctly. Can’t imagine they could find any kind of loophole to make that legal today.
