Taken from an Autosport article,

“We will bring new power units to this event (Canada), the second units of 2015 for each driver,” confirmed Lowe.

“Our first power units were used for six complete race weekends, an incredible achievement by the team at Brixworth that saw both achieve total mileages of over 4000km [2485 miles].

Both power units lasted through the first six weekends; Renault and McLaren lost an engine before the first lap in Australia was even started.

Can’t wait to see them this weekend!

Not only that, but per Lotus, it’s a new revision, but Mercedes haven’t used any tokens yet. In other words, it’s supposedly even more reliable now, and will undoubtedly have some extra horses on tap.

Or perhaps it is slightly less reliable, but more aggressive with the setup and build for that extra oomph? I would imagien that would be legal and within the rules to purposely sandbag a bit for reliability and then take the weights off when you have the engines to spare.

Let’s hope that means no brake by wire issues for either Lotus or Mercedes this year. Lotus (Pastor) needs a clean weekend so damn bad. That’s also funny to hear considering the supposed FIA crackdown on “reliability” upgrades.

Well, they already have the engines to spare at this rate. They have four engines for the season, and the first lasted six races with 19 total races. They already have one in their pocket at that rate. Per the rules, the only revisions they are allowed to make without using their tokens are for reliability or cost reasons. I’m sure it’s super easy to game the system a bit and use those excuses to get more power, but I don’t know how the FIA decide on what’s legitimate.

What is legitimate depends on how large of an envelope you slip someone under the table. Or perhaps I’m confusing FIFA and FIA.

FOM maybe? Bernie did recently pay a bribe to get out of the charges related to paying a bribe...
