An 18 Y/O girl didn’t notice a conga-line of armoured vehicles while entering what is rightly called the “Panzerringstrasse” in some small village in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, this morning. A challenger tank couldn’t stop in time, and what is see here is pretty much tank 1 : 0 Yaris. The girl survived without even a scratch.
What I wonder is though, how could she not see or hear these behemoths heading her way? Cellphone? Make-up?

Not to sound rude, but I’m pretty sure Helen Keller would have heard those.

Two questions:
A Challenger? In Germany? Why not a Leopard?
Do they always drive with the turret backwards like that?
Ok, that was 4 questions.

I feel sorry that my cousins have to live in the same State as that girl.

All I can say is that it was driven by a British soldier, according to the article. NRW is in the British zone.

Yes they do usually drive with the turret backwards. You don’t want to have that gun swinging around neighborhouds.

The tank is camoflaged, she never saw it coming.
/Not really but somebody had to make the old joke. How you miss a 40+ ton tank driving down the road towards you is beyond my ability to comprehend.

If you look closely in the picture, I believe there’s a barrel rest/lock. Not uncommon, turret traversed rear keeps the barrel clear of more things, balances weight, and keeps it from bouncing around. Here’s a barrel rest in use on an M60:
You wouldn’t see a rear barrel rest on an Israeli Merkava, because as an engine-forward tank it has a very short rear deck.

Excuse me, I’ve played enough GTA to know that this Yaris should be in a million pixelated pieces.

Those tanks can be sneaky buggers.

NATO forces must be able to work together. That is why they are there.
