I am both happy and sad. Happy that this is still out & driving around, but sad it is almost at the end of its life.

When we came out the owners were trying to load a box that was a bbq grill. The older lady looked just like the wat woman along with her 40 year old man-son. Noticed me watching them saying to stuff the grill box in with other stuff that was in the car ( looked like they pulled out a tent, and had an acoustic guitar in there still). She said something about #littlecarproblems & I said how I also live the #smallcarlife. She then said something about It being able to hauling anything.

I walked away with a smile.

Ugh, this happens all too commonly and I have seen 2 others just like this owned by shitty people, an SR-5 and a GT-S.

Someone buys a shitty corolla and happens to check the 2-door box because they’re smaller and get better fuel economy. It gets passed down in the family and then finally bought as a used car in the 90s when no one knew what these were. So it’s on the cusp of needing repairs and being taken good care of as a used car, only to be bought by some welfare queen in the early 2000s because “Corolla = reliable and cheap”. No one looking for a sporty classic car gave them a second look then, because “Corolla = boring” and if you wanted a Corolla, the 90s ones were better anyway.

They then proceed to drive it into the ground for the next 15 years as if it was a Geo Metro.

Yes, I'm driving my metro into the ground for the last 8 years. Best $800 I spent.

Yep, thats what they do, they are clueless. But that’s the general population, the auto industry loves them, they buy the bulk of their mass produced beige.

Kind of a shitty way to look at it if you ask me. ~30 years of reliable service even as a beater for likely 2/3rds of it’s existence is impressive. Not every car needs to be in a concourse. Some cars are natural born beaters (such as this) that should be celebrated, not scorned. The fact that the enthusiast market overlooked it for 20 years isn’t the current owners fault.
