I was driving past this house- (It’s just a few minutes from where I live, and it’s gorgeous)
And this was in the driveway-
Nothing I’ll ever do will be this classy

I see a red one near me, it has old base stickers on the window, I figure it must be an old officer.

They’re such gorgeous cars. I’d have a very hard time choosing between it and a 300SL

Well the 300SL has all the performance, these are not even close to being the same. The 300SL is an engineering masterpiece. Just watch the Leno’s Garage of it, amazing.

I don’t disagree with that, but for top-down cruising, it’s hard to beat the 190.

Furthermore, not insignificantly, there is also about $700,000 difference in price between the gorgeous 190 and equally perfect appearing 300SL roadster. If you get the 190, just immagine what $700K left over will buy to fill your garage... ;- )

Here, a nice 300Sl roadster to enjoy...

I am actually a convertible hater haha, I hate the sun on my head or in my eyes driving. They usually weigh more or have less rigidity. I hate getting hot in the sun driving, now I do have a sunroof in my w123, when it’s a hot evening in the summer, sun has mostly gone down, I can lower all the windows and open the sunroof, that is nice.

I understand where you’re coming from. For me, if I’m buying a car because of its performance, I’d have a hardtop every time. But If I’m buying something without any real sporting pretensions, I’d go with a convertible.
In the case of the 190 vs. the 300, seeing how old and valuable each is, the performance of the 300 is going to be a lot less accessible than the beauty and style of the 190. Sure the 300 is a supercar, but you’d think twice every time you wanted to drive it hard.
