Ok, one of the reasons.

After reading !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the first comment of many that shows up is this one:

oh please, you self-righteous anti-american. its not the weekend yet, why do we have to suffer through this crappy excuse for journalism. at least the good authors have the weekends off, that seems right. Demuro writes an article tomorrow, do you feel comfortable leading into that?

It wasn’t the first comment, but by default it shows up first. Lots of other commenting / blogging software sorts things in such a way that crap like this doesn’t bubble to the top. Yes, there’s going to be plenty of assholes on the FP, but there are software solutions that don’t reward assholery by placing it at the top just because lots of people fed the troll.

Edit: It’s gone now. So... kudos to kinja?

That comment, and its ensuing thread, will likely be sent to the grey doldrums soon enough

Looks like it already has. I’d recommend removing the link to the thread to keep the troll unfed.

Yeah saw that too. I just hope that with that comment gone the response I know I recommended was still there, but doubt it.

My biggest beef with Kinja is I can’t delete my comment, never mind editing it within the 15 minute window. We all make stupid comments myself included, and I would love to go back and delete but cannot.

If Gawker has taught you anything, it’s that stupid comments need to stay online forever. This way, when it’s found in 5-10 years, people can call you out on it, and demand that you lose your job, and your life be ruined.
