The Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally is next week, and I know some Oppos have at least talked about going. Orlove is co-driving for Petrow, and I’m co-driving for... um... someone (the last 48 hours have been a bit of a mess). We’re also planning on hitting Pine Creek for some kayaking Sunday after the rally. Any Oppos at the rally are welcome to join us for the kayak trip, which we’re doing through

So, who else is going to the rally, and who wants to run the river after?

I’d love to, but there’s a geographical issue going on..

that sounds great to me, I’ll be there on the radios all weekend. Are you guys renting boats there or hauling your own? Debating whether or not saving $30 would be worth hauling my kayak for 5 hours... I’d probably lose out on fuel with the extra drag anyway.

We’re renting. One of the rental boat + shuttle combos in the link. Just need to settle on the paddle length. I’m hoping to start all the way out at Galeton, but I know some people might not be willing/able to commit to that kind of time.

Nice, I’m sure that’s the sort of thing the outfitters can be flexible about given how everyone’s feeling. If you have an email chain or something going for details just throw williamsnj4(at)(gee)mail.com in there.

What would be your ideal end time?

Is tubing a viable substitution?

The only problem with tubing is I don’t think they’d be able to keep up with the kayaks

I’m looking at about 5 hours home and I’d prefer to get there before sundown so about 4 or so? That’s a pretty flexible time, I’m not too picky.

Alright. We’ve got two route options, and which we go with will depend on schedule and needs (and if PCO is willing to change their own schedule a bit for a large enough group).
Option 1 is to do the Upper Pine, like in the link. Flexible distances, we can start and end at any time, but that portion of Pine creek doesn’t go through the gorge and, in fact, runs alongside Highway 6 for it’s entire duration. We could do a trip as short as eight miles and be done in 2-3 hours, or as long as 13 and be done in 4-5 hours. Either way with a start time of around 10 we’d be done by 3. But again, no canyon.
Option 2 is to do the canyon, which initially I didn’t think would be possible due to water levels, but this weekend’s rain is putting the option back on my radar. The canyon means great views and class I rapids. Downside is it’s 17 miles (5-6 hours), and PCO’s shuttle schedule for the pickup point is 2 PM or 5 PM. One of those is, of course, too early (unless we set off at like 8 am), and the other is a bit late.
