There’s always an optimistic thought when you’re starting 22nd of 22 in an F1 grand prix at Monza right? Not how I felt especially as it was raining, and rain racing isn’t exactly my strength. Oh, did I mention I was driving for Ferrari? No pressure. Anyway I started out gaining around 8 positions on lap 1, GTFO my way Marussia and Caterham, and was pretty quick. By lap 10 I’d made my first pit stop for a new set of intermediate tyres and I was up to 9th leaving pit lane. By lap 16 the rain has stopped but I’m still setting good times on the inters so I decided to keep them for as long as possible. The moment to change came just a lap later when I decided to go onto the prime tyre, the hard compound in this case, so I could get a quick final stint on the options, softs, at the end on low fuel. Come back out on lap 18 around 10th after battling Kimi for 9th. Then began the greatest stint I’ve ever had in F1 2013. The team said I should pit around lap 31 and I thought, “I should be able to get more than 14 laps out of these tyres?’’ Which I’d soon find out is a true statement. Lap 31 rolls around and I’ve made it up to 5th with the help of good pace and some of the leaders pitting for new tyres. I check my tyre life and thought, “Damn, I’ve got to have a lot of life left in these tyres.” The laps tick by not really doing much except lapping cars and improving to 4th after another car had pitted. On lap 37 I set the fastest lap of the race at a 1:27.257 on 18 lap old tyres! That fast lap would hold until around lap 45 when Hamilton would go just a few hundredths quicker. Anyway, I end up catching Rosberg with about 23 laps on the tires and it took a few laps to pass him but I got him, thanks to DRS and lap traffic. Then I get Perez a few laps later at around lap 41 or 42 bringing me to P2 just 6,5 seconds behind Vettel who’d just recently pitted for new tyres. As I started losing time to Vettel I contemplated on whether or not I should try to stretch the tyres to almost 37 laps and go to the end on them or pit for new softs and go hard for the last 10 like I’d planned from the first time I put the hards on. Around lap 46 I started losing front end grip and sliding around a lot more. That and steadily losing over a second a lap to Vettel and Rosberg slowly clawing back I knew it was probably the wise decision to pit for new tyres. On lap 47, a mere 31 laps after I last pitted, and 7 to go in the race, I boxed for a new set of the Pirelli soft tyre. I lost P2 and fell to P4 on pit out but being a lot lower on fuel and brand new tyres I knew I could run qualifying laps to the end. I had about a 2 second gap to Perez who had a 2 second gap to Rosberg ahead of him. I cranked the engine to max power and started pushing flat out. About 2 laps in on these tyres I dive bomb Perez into T1 and get the pass on the exit of the chicane. The next lap I pass Rosberg after a good run off of the parabolica and get him down the straight I’m now back to P2 with 4 laps to go. I push as hard as I can to gap the drivers behind, ending up getting a nearly 10 sec gap to Rosberg by the finish. Even though I know I can’t catch Vettel I try to gain as much time on him as possible. I gain about 8 seconds on Vettel but he finishes 20 sec up the road from me anyway. I finish P2 in my first race at Monza as a Ferrari driver. Fernando Alonso finished a measly 19th, thanks for helping the team in the constructors title. It was the greatest race I’ve ever driven, and the first time I’ve been able to push a set of tyres over 30 laps. It was a great race and I won’t soon forget it.
Hope you enjoyed my story!

Internet racers constantly bitch and moan about how unrealistic the F1 games are, but you know what? It’s the only racing game where I can confidently string together more than a few laps without crashing. And that lets me worry about more fun stuff like tire wear and pit strategy, which frequently leads to awesomely fun races.
So I say steady on with the simcade handling Codemasters, steady on.
(Maybe a little bit of corner-entry rotation would be nice, though.)

F1 2015 is supposed to have a newer engine. Hopefully still as fun as the 2011-2013 games. Never got F1 2014 so I don’t know how that one was. Supposedly the physics are more realistic, I just hope they’re not to that point where it’s no longer fun to play while being confident in your abilities.

Is this 2014? I’m really good at 2013, but only on TT and 25% races, whenever I try 50% or more I can never figure out the stupid tyre wear lol, also, the classics dlc for 2013 is so good.

This was 2013. I never picked up 2014. I may get it soon though being cheaper on Steam.

I got F1 2014 in a Steam sale, I haven’t played it much (I already have so much time invested in the f1 2013 career- I wish they would let you continue from game to game), but it feels pretty much the same to me.
