I need some advice on what to do with this majestic beast, click on through!

Kinja'd!!!

I finally have a lot of the stuff knocked out on the new Volvo that needed to be done, tie rods are happening tomorrow, along with getting the front rotors turned, valve adjustment kit will be here by next weekend, and I still need to find out why it’s still leaking oil, but all the big stuff is out of the way. I’m thinking of going in a more ‘rugged’ direction with this beast. I have a roof-basket that I’ll probably be picking up this weekend to go on the racks. I also had one of the quite old tires give out on me this week and am currently running a Blizzak full-sized spare in the Florida summer(lulz).

Since I need new tires, I’m considering going with some all-terrains but really have no clue where to start. Some people on the Volvo forums seem to have had luck with BFGoodrich T/A KO’s in 195/75R14 on the stock wheels, but that is still pushing $500 and I’m not sure they’ll clear the spring perch on the front since they are a bit wider and there isn’t a lot of room. I wouldn’t be opposed to stepping up to a 15” if I can find affordable wheels as well, but I’m really looking at a budget of <$400 for this adventure. The car also needs suspension parts at some point so doing some overload springs in the rear, and the diesel springs up front wouldn’t be out of the question and would get me about 1” lift the whole way around, so a bit larger diameter wouldn’t be too terrible, just gotta pay attention to the width.

Anyways, anyone have any good ideas for how to do this on a budget, or should I just give up and spend the $275 and get some usual all-seasons thrown on it?

Hmm, needs either a Nordica livery or M90 camo wrap, mud flaps, brush guard, at least 4 more lights, maybe a 2” lift.

I want some vintage Marchal’s to go on the front of the roof basket.

I don’t think I’ll do more than 1” because I don’t want to put the suspension too far out of it’s happy place, but skid plates will happen as well.

General Grabber AT2’s are a bit cheaper and are pretty common on battlewagons.

Hmmm, I was worried on clearing the width with those, I seem to be having trouble finding anything besides speculation as far as all-terrains go on these Volvos.
