“You gonna sell it?”
I be like... “Nawww.”

Humor me here.. why would you sell it? It’s a nice car, well sorted.
Or is there some huge difference when it comes to the US version vs the Euro version?

TDI Sport?

No idea. Ever since I cleaned it up, they’ve been bugging me.

in terms of the Jetta vs the Bora, not even sure. The Jetta has no 4motion option I know for a fact.

Same engine though right?

yeah, engine is the same. 2004 was the first year they brought the Pumpe Duse engines over, and also the year there was a ‘refresh’ with the extra chrome.

I love the Mark IV Jettas. We bought my wife’s 1.8T new in fall of ‘04 and have enjoyed it ever since. Always a great drive, performs well even in bad conditions, and no problems (note, we also only have 40,000 miles on it). Ours is the dark green, I think they called it “Alaska Green” or some other BS variation. It’s quite nice, but she really wanted the color you’ve got. Sharp looking car. Enjoy it!

Apart from the paint peeling off on the rocker panels, and fogged up headlights, it’s great. 2004 TDI Sport Edition (Canadian exclusive, one of 2000 ever made), car technically isn’t mine, but has been in the family its whole life, since ‘04.

Yeah, we polished out the lights a couple of times, replaced them once as well. Everyone’s lights fog up here (extremely sunny in CO, and no pesky atmosphere to get in the way of all that UV). Paint peeling on the rockers? Hmm, hadn’t heard/seen that one. Just something about the paint?

Likely the 10 years of bombardment from whatever the wheels sling at them, plus salt. Only the front part is flaking off.

Wow, that’s really interesting. I haven’t seen stone chips on ours, and CO basically doesn’t salt. We do some liquid deicer (MgCl) on spots like intersections, but it’s not nearly as corrosive. Still, I’m wondering if I should look a little closer on the wheel-spit area. Thanks for the heads up! I had a week of business in Ottawa a year or two ago, in February. It was interesting to get re-acquainted with the quantities of road salt. I certainly don’t blame transportation dept/ministries, as I don’t have a better idea; however, it sure doesn’t do the cars any favors.

As a resident of Ottawa for almost 23 years, (lived here my whole life) I can say that salt is basically the worst thing about living in Ontario. The province is crazy on their salt consumption, the worst offender for corrosion would be Mazda 3s from the early 00s, seeing those without a hole in the rocker panel is a rarity. Potholes that pop up like rabbits are a close second to being the worst.

Yay, Ottawa! I really enjoyed the town. The salt was impressive, making crystal formations in the parking garage under the hotel. The potholes were a surprise. I kind of felt bad about the rental, seemed some days like I hit every possible hole between the hotel and work site. The airport was awesome. Even the US customs/immigration people there were nice, if suspicious of my 7-day temp passport from the embassy (mine was stolen in a smash-and-grab in the parking garage under the convention center). Also, Morning Owl coffee was top notch. There was really good food, particularly some Italian and Chinese places I found. The beer was great, even if it seemed to cost a bit more, but our market here may be unusually low in price.

That is my Favorite mk4. Anthracite Grey, those taillights, the chrome trim all the way around. Love it.

It’s rather lovely in person, quite a few people turn their heads, for a FREAKING Jetta.

Any mods or just stock TDI?

Bone stock. If it were officially mine I’d put a slight tune on it. My cousin has an Ibiza with a 2 BAR tune.
