Despite engines being pretty durable and whatnot, it’s still kinda terrifying cleaning it. I used this foaming stuff called GUNK. It was recommended by the guy at the auto parts store and it got good reviews online.
It’s a mind engine cleaner/degreaser. All you do is spray it on (it’s foam), it expands, then dissolves. You wait 10-15 minutes, then lightly hose it off. I didn’t use too much and avoided all areas that would give me problems (intake, etc).
Here’s the result
As it turns out, my engine wasn’t even dirty. The pics online show engine’s that look like mother nature threw up on them. There was some minor grease/oil around the oil cap that’s now gone, but otherwise it is identical to how it was before.
That being said, the annual full detail of my caR is complete.

Now we let it get filthy again!
This weekend I’ll finally make an exhaust video.

I think that Simple Green will do something to the same effect? Except spraying a hose into my engine bay gives me mini panic attacks just thinking of it. Did you have to mask anything off?

Nope. They said that it’ll be fine. So far no problems. I barely sprayed inside the engine. Probably used maybe like a quarter of a gallon of water then used compressed air to dry everything up.

Ah, not bad at all then!

Eh still scary!

I’ve used simple green with no ill effects. Depending on the engine, you can be somewhat aggressive, so long as you try to avoid or cover the alternator and other electrical components. Also, don’t spray exposed air filters. Duh.
I’ve bought cars that looked like they were parked at the bottom of a lake and detailed engines this way to near showroom cleanliness!

Haha, I’ve got to cover a few things up then.
