Kinja'd!!!

Found this on the 6th gen Mustang forum; and this story was found by a member on Facebook. Story goes that this 17 year old girl crashed “her” fully loaded 2015 Mustang GT with the 50th Anniversary Package while street racing....

She seems awfully proud posing next to “her” ruined $40k+ pony car. -_-

And you know what, I get it now. I get why most adults or older people in general despise youngins who get these super awesome(just a Mustang) high horsepower sports cars, or just cars that some have to work years or even decades to even come close to affording. I understand why you hate them, why you bitch about them, complain about them, its totally justifiable. Especially when something stupid like this happens. Some people just don’t understand or respect the value and cost of some things and the weight of the responsibility they carry. So on that note, let me be the one(probably only person here) to say, I apologize . :(

Kinja'd!!!

It’s people like this spoiled child that make me feel quite bad, even ashamed sometimes to have a new car; because lets be honest, in most cases, we didn’t earn it or deserve it. “Oh you passed high school, here’s your brand new car!”. That’s not how it works, that’s not how any of this should work. I agree, it’s just not fair, and I see now why this is such a heated topic at times. That’s not to say young people can’t have nice cars, but not like that. To pass high school shouldn’t require a reward of that magnitude. Working every day to make money to earn such things does. It should also go without saying, that all young people with cars like these should not be hated and despised, or left out and shunned because of what they have. They could possibly be humble or a cool person to talk to and get to know; sure there’ll always be that one person, but it can’t be helped. We all make mistakes, some worse than others. Some will learn from those mistakes, and some won’t. We’re only human after all.

This reminds me of my dad’s first car. His first car was a non-running ‘59 Chevy Truck that he bought with his own saved up money from working at a burger joint in Ohio. He spent an entire summer rebuilding the motor and putting the truck back together as his first car to ever drive. He worked his way up from that, to some other cars, including an AMC Gremlin, and many Beetles before buying his brand new ‘74 911.

What’d I do for “my” first car? I got a minty 2008 Saturn Astra as my first car as a Christmas gift from my mom, my god I was so thankful for that car I can’t even put it to words here. Then we sold it to my mom’s co-worker so that I could put it on a down payment with the help of my dad for a Focus ST. There’s a reason I seldom talk about the Astra and ST, and tell people my 944 was my very first car . Because it was the only car I bought, repaired and maintain, and insured with my own money from working my ass off an entire summer. And it taught me something else. It taught me how much more fun it is to work your ass off for something and then finally when the day comes when you can get the thing or things you want, how much pride, joy, and appreciation you realize goes into it, more so than simply being handed something like it was nothing. How times have changed...It can only get better from here right? I guess it’s a part of growing up.

Kinja'd!!!

But lets not simply blame it all on this girl, what about the parents? We can totally blame her for street racing and crashing, yes. The parents who go out of their way to buy nice things for their kids. Not that there’s any problem with doing that; I’ve heard it from many adults and parents alike including my own who want their kids to have more or have it better than what they had when they were our age. Good on them, making such sacrifices, that deserves so much lot of respect and applause; hell, that’s not even enough. You should wake up every morning and give your parents a big hug and a huge THANK YOU every single day because of what they do and they damn well deserve it. God knows I haven’t but it’s not too late to start. But there must be some modicum of common sense or safety must be applicable at all times, I don’t think this was one of them.

There are quite a few factors to consider in this situation. All in all, it’s a big responsibility owning a 435hp RWD pony car at such a young age, and if the story proves to be true, clearly she wasn’t up for such a responsibility. One simply does not jump into such a car thinking that it’s a breeze or easy to drive, much learning and experience comes before that. This story is such a big lesson, so many big lessons to young drivers wanting cars like these out there, myself included. This post simply can’t do it enough justice. Just go out there and be responsible, and smart with what you have, and even more so, appreciate what you have every single day you’re alive.

EDIT: More of the incident has been revealed! This took place in Puerto Rico:

50th anniversary fully loaded. It was 60k here in PR. She was racing, she spinned hit a wall then into the pole. Nothing really happened to her as you can see, and the car is fucked up. Good job Ford. She drove like crazy, I told her she will crash if she keeps like that... It didn’t take long. She also has a 2014 edge sport for “daily” . Insurance don’t work here the same as the states.Insurance will pay her car. She wants a Shelby or GtR now She die on those. And Even the doors got bent, back part also was hit, all airbags deployed.

Could be worse. My wife went to school growing up with this giant asshole. She told me how he was spoiled and his dad was a lawyer and his mom was a doctor and how he got away with everything. For his first car they got him a brand new Mustang. He got drunk and totaled it. How did his parents punish him? They bought him a brand new BMW. He got drunk and wrecked it. What was their reaction to this? They bought him a Vette.

My wife and I moved out of state and lost touch with a lot of people and didn’t know what everyone was up to so one day she starts googling everyone from her childhood. Apparently that Vette was the last new car they got him because he killed himself in it. Even if someone’s an asshole you don’t want them to die, especially not in a nasty car accident. Parents need to buy enough car for their kids to handle and to keep them safe and that’s about it.

I crashed my dad’s car (1988 Toyota Corolla) in 2005. Then he bought me a car...then I crashed THAT car. (1992 Ford Tempo) in 2008. Kids gonna crash. Buying them a 435 hp Pony Car just makes it more likely in my opinion, and makes dumber judgements on the kids part more likely.

My dad said “no matter” how rich he got he was never gonna buy me a sports car. And that’s probably why. 1992 Tempo’s arent known for speed haha.

I said 50th Anniversary package(also called 50 Years Package), not 50th Anniversary Edition, Ford had it as an option for the 2015 GT and Ecoboost Premium cars. It’s just an appearance package really, nothing more.

I’ve gone through a few hand me down cars until I paid cash for a car, a 1965 Galaxie 500 LTD with a 390 big block. I’m still mad I got rid of it.

Mine was a boat. Bench seats, could seat six, only two lap belts. 390 with a 3 speed auto was pretty common at that time. Mine was worn out and needed serious work. Not that fast but it could just eat up highway miles like a boss. I miss that car.

You know what’s really sad. I dropped out of highschool. I knew that the public school system was failing, me. Like it fails almost every kid. between teachers that don’t give a shit, and wasting time teaching kids evolution instead of how to balance a check book, or how credit cards actually work. Any way I dropped out with a year and a half to go, because I was tired of the bullshit, then that summer I took the GED exams and aced every single one with out one minute of prep classes.

But you know what my one regret is. The only reason I wish I had slaved away my formative teenage years on 4 hours of home work ever day, just to please a teacher who was to lazy to attempt to teach me something. The only reason I wish I had a high school diploma, is when all my friends graduated I saw them get 3-6 grand in presents and cash. Even kids from families that wern’t very well off.

I forgot the point of the rant. by the time I finished writing it, all I could think to summarize it is. “So yeah I’m jealous that every body else did their home work.”

I can never understand parents who buy everything for their kids. I get that they want them to have a better life than they did, but at the same time don’t they want their kids to understand what it is to earn something? I'm a big believer in paying half for the big things. Parents pay half of the car, half of college, half of whatever...but the kid has a significant amount of skin in the game too. Makes them appreciate it for the most part.

My dad not wanting to go through this (Saab life) again told my brother he would buy him a car if he gets good grades. My brother didn’t get good grades and has to drive the Saab (which he hates). My dad noticed that I got good grades this year (all As) and realized that I bought my own car saving him money. He’s offered to buy me a Miata. I think I’ll take it or an Mr2 if I can find one.

Wasn’t there that story a few months ago about a kid who got so shitfaced on alcohol and drugs, he grabbed his dad’s F-150, mowed down and killed a few pedestrians? The story got big because basically, the family claimed he suffered from this “affluenza” and the parents paid him out of the whole thing. I don’t think he even served community service time.

IIRC he got sentenced to several months of therapy. At what is essentially a vacation resort. So yeah, he basically got away with it.

The only real punishment that happened is that after the incident (and all the media coverage) the father’s business (read: the reason they were so wealthy) lost a ton of business. Not sure if they ended up going under or not, but he definitely wasn’t doing as well as he used to. All the stars for you!

My driving career started basically the same way (as you, not the girl!) . I was 14 when we were looking to buy a new family car. My parents figured that they wouldn’t be able to get me anything that wasn’t a piece of crap if they bought the new family car now, so they decided to surprise me and buy me a new car then instead (Jetta 1.8T manual) , holding off on the family car purchase for what ended up being almost six years.

I still daily that Jetta and have proudly sunk in my own cash on upgrades. I’m hugely grateful and plan on paying it forward with my own kids when that time comes.

I’ve heard it from many adults and parents alike including my own who want their kids to have more or have it better than what they had when they were our age.

Wonder how many parents stop to consider that growing up without the excess helped make them into “good people” before spoiling their snowflake?

My first car was a 1992 Caprice. I totaled it at 60mph. From the insurance money, Dad bought me a worn-out ‘89 Bronco and put 33’s on it so it could hardly get out of its own way. After that, I was on my own.
