If the always accurate internet comments are true, it appears the bikers have been driving at high speeds past their house and the “family man” was concerned about his kids. That doesn’t justify crossing the double-yellows and going head-on while those kids are in the truck.

I don’t care what someone else is doing, nothing short of seriously threatening your life justifies an attempt on another.

I get that the police aren’t always popular, but if you don’t call them and ask them for help you’ll never know how they respond. We had some scummy teenagers that would race around our block (lots of kids living there) late at night and after the third time my parents called the police the next morning. The next few nights they set up a cruiser that was kind of hidden and a camera in the state police officer’s (who lived on the street but mostly worked nights on the highway) window after asking permission and they caught the idiots within a two days.

I never understood the logic of hopping out of a car and deciding to get in the face of a motorcyclist still wearing their helmet......you’re intimidating no one but yourself. Someone probably almost killed him accidentally earlier that ride. So you think your skinny little pasty pile of flesh is going to scare someone wearing literal armor?

On the other hand, calling the police about bikes and trucks going ~70 in a 35 in front of my house in town has resulted in dick. depends on your local police. not going to try to kill them but it’s still annoying/dangerous.

I kind of wish the dude that gave the helmet butt hadn’t so they wouldn’t be waffling about calling the police, but then again, I am glad he didn’t. I would have my helmet off and been beating him so his kids learn the lesson early to not put others life in serious danger over a point. A learning moment so to say...

Yup, exactly this. We have no idea how long or how dangerous (or whether there actually were any) the antics of the bikers were... but driving on the wrong side of the road with kids in the car is just f’n stupid and dangerous.

I’m a dad. And I’ve been cut off or had other people do dangerous stuff while I’m driving. And trust me, I *TOTALLY GET* the protective parent instinct welling up. Someone does something that endangers my kids, and there’s a very, very powerful fury that starts rattling its chains. But it ends with “protecting them”. Vengeance - especially the kind that would further endanger the kids - is never on the table[1]. It’s frustrating and saddening that Dad can’t look in the back and say “oh wait. I’m actually being more dangerous than fast bikers in the street ever will be. Holy crap, I’m the a-hole here.”
[1] - Not gonna lie, though - if I see jerkface get pulled over a half-mile later, I’m gonna feel some satisfaction.

Not to go all political, but this is EXACTLY the sort of situation I bring up when people say “WE SHOULD ALL CARRY. EVERYONE SHOULD BE ARMED. PERSONAL PROTECTION SECOND AMENDMENT WOOOO”.
Because, yeah, sure. There’s a chance that one or both parties is armed and they’re like “f-ck. I don’t wanna get into that.” But there’s also a really good chance that — adrenaline pumping on all sides — someone says “yep, threat to my life, I’m bringin’ the heat”. And it doesn’t end with a bonk to the head and everyone angry...
...it ends up with at least one person dead and probably one person on their way to jail.

My point is that, yes, the driver (or the biker, but it would have been tougher to hide) could have been armed and decided not to use their weapon.... but if someone pulls a gun out, there’s an excellent chance for things ending much, much worse than it did.
