Some guy keeps emailing to ask me what my lowest price is and of I’ve dropped my price. But the guy won’t make an offer. Do people really not know how to haggle anymore?
I’m asking $38k. I know I’m high, but I don’t even know how much I really want to sell it anyway. And I suspect I won’t know until someone does something crazy like make me an offer.

People don’t like working for a lower price. They just want it handed to them

If they ask what your lowest price it, just re-quote them your price. If they tell you ‘I could get it for cheaper elsewhere”, Tell them, “Ok. Go buy that one then.” If they tell you they’re trying to do you a favor, remind them that you didn’t ask for any. If they become argumentative and talk over you, show them the door.

I have roughly a third of that to my name. Will you take it in exchange for the car?
But seriously, that is a sweet looking ride. I think those colours and the orange/black combo look best on this car.

Because people aren’t BOSS enough to buy a BOSS 302 and so they wimp out on price thinking it’s a normal ‘Stang.

I’d say 39k.

Just reiterate your asking price and tell them to come look at it if they want to discuss price. Ignore their continued correspondence unless it involves coming to see the car.

I freaking HATE when people won’t stop emailing, but refuse to make an offer.

When people try to lowball/ negotiate I raise my price and watch the smoke come out of their ears. Then I tell them: “What makes you think negotiations are one sided?”

I have been trying to buy a car on CL for a few months. I hate when sellers ask for an offer before I get to inspect the car. They have a price they asked for, so depending on how the car is I’ll make an offer. But I won’t make an offer then find out the car is torn up.

“Make me an offer. The worst I can say is ‘no,’ or counter. Otherwise, you’re just wasting my time and your own.”
OR
“Make me an offer or fuck off forever.”

That’s what I feel like saying. For some reason there’s a large part of me trying to be nice.

It was pretty funny, the guy told me he was cross shopping Boss’s and Shelby’s. I’m like yeah, well if you want to go low ball, buy a Shelby since they made like 20,000 of them or something.

Believe it or not, I almost bought an Orange/White one. It was a very rare color combo. But I loved the blue/white so I just couldn’t pull the trigger.

Yeah, exactly.

Depending on the Gran Torino, that might be pretty good! :)

I think he’s trying to go after a powerful Mustang, and based on what it sounds like, he isn’t the type of person to track his car. So this isn’t for him.
You would think that Boss 302s would attract only hardcore enthusiasts but it seems not to be that way.

A lot of track rats bought them. I see people on the forums that also own exotic sports cars.

Dude, there was a creamsicle option? I didn’t know that.

DO play nice. NEVER escalate a negotiation. “Firm, fair, polite.”
One thing though: if you aren’t serious about selling, don’t waste peoples’ time. You’re as bad as the tyre kickers if you “don’t know if you really want to sell.” Have a price in your head you’ll accept and then accept if you get it.

Details?
I use this for pricing data:
http://www.vmrcanada.com/used-car/value…
It’s Canadian but the prices are probably comparable, with a bit of adjustment for the exchange rate.
I wrote it elsewhere but I’ll repeat: don’t jerk people around. Are you a serious seller?
I don’t even know how much I really want to sell it anyway.
That doesn’t sound serious.

YES! I’m so happy I’m not the only one who thought they should have named it the Creamsicle option. For 69 lucky buyers, it was an option. I probably should have bought it. The dealer I was working with sent me a very poor, washed-out Iphone photo of one and I just couldn’t come to grips with the appearance. After I saw one in person, I though, man that does actually look pretty good.
It’s funny. I love my Kona Blue Metalic and White Boss. But every time I see a Boss in another color, I think to myself how good it looks. They’re all good.

I’m totally not serious. But I’m not jerking anyone around either. If someone offers me $38k (or close to it), I’ll very seriously consider it. That money in the bank would be pretty nice. And then I could buy something less rare that I won’t feel bad about modifying or tracking.
That said, I love this car a lot and it’s not really costing me much money at the moment. It’s paid off and I don’t drive it much, so maintenance isn’t busting my bank. I would love to have this car when I’m old and, maybe just maybe, when it’s worth more than I bought it for.

Yeah, I told the guy after he tried to low-ball me that I’m not motivated to sell (i.e. If you don’t offer me what I want, get bent.)

Details? Like that it has 11,200 miles currently and has the Recarro/Torsen option? It also has a set of aftermarket tires on it...cause I wore the front ones out.

Have you seen the Kona Blue with matte black instead of white? That’s also an excellent combo.

Every seller wants the absolute highest price they can possibly get for their car. But, put yourself in the buyers shoes. There are a lot of different kinds of people out there. Some people just aren’t into “negotiating”. They just want the best price up front, and then they simply decide if they’ll take it or not.
I’m now one of those people. After buying 104 cars in my life, and having to “negotiate” for pretty much every one of them, I’m just tired of the back-and-forth BS and hassles. Nowadays when I’m looking at a car, I ask for the seller’s best price, and then I decide if I’ll buy it or not, period. I may be missing out on some cars, but that’s OK, I just don’t want the ‘negotiating’ nonsense and waste of time anymore at this point in my life. My time is worth more to me, and I don’t want to waste hours of it if a deal isn’t going to happen anyway.
I think if someone is asking for your best price they’re probably not a low-baller, they’re just one of those people who don’t want the headaches of ‘negotiating’ (I would think a low-baller would do just that, offer you an insultingly low price).
Regardless of what approach you take, you can’t appeal to every buyer. A lot of people enjoy the ‘negotiating’ process, and love to intensely haggle like they’re buying rugs in a bazaar. But, just as many people don’t. After too many unpleasant experiences and way too much time wasted with car dealers, I also know a lot of buyers who now take my approach - just give me the best price, and I’ll decide if I’ll buy it for that or not. With a buyer like that, a seller potentially risks losing out on a sale for what could have been a reasonable price because they’re holding out for a sucker who might pay more.
Having also been on the selling side of cars (for 100 of the 104 I’ve bought), I would suggest every seller should know what they really will take for their car. Everyone should have their realistic bottom line. If you don’t, as others have suggested, maybe a seller isn’t really ready to sell, and is just fishing, which isn’t fair to serious buyers. When I’ve been a seller, I’ve found that having a realistic bottom-line price also reduces the headaches for me and quickly dispenses with the low-ball bottom-feeders - I give my bottom-line price, and that’s it, period. If the buyer wants it, great, if not, end of discussion, no more time wasted, and end of hassles.

Well, I saw one of the guys that bought a KB/W car removed his white tape, painted the roof black and put on a black tape kit. It does look excellent.

Pretty cool man. How are you liking that website so far? I admit I haven’t spent much time with it so far.

I agree to a point. Although, car prices, especially used car prices, are a grey area and really are a negotiation. Cars aren’t commodities. If you list your bottom line price, you can bet people are going to try to talk you down from there. And why do I want to show my hand?

That site is easy to use and simple, but it lags a lot and needs to give some notice it's loading the next page cause I can click and then like a min later suddenly it changes
