How did bench seats even swivel? I guess they moved to the side a bit first.

These in the Buick even did a full 180

Seeing older and generally larger people struggling to get out of their cars in parking lots, I’m surprised this hasn’t made a comeback. I’m sure it would present some challenges with proper seatbelt and air bag operation, but I have no doubt those could be worked through.

This would have been good when I was recovering from knee surgery. :D

Racing buckets are hell when you have a bad knee!!

That too! There’s more than a few people out there that have difficulty getting up out of a car. My dad doesn’t have anything particularly wrong with him physically, but I notice he has trouble with lower cars, probably just age related. A swivel seat would help there, too.

Combine it with a return to the swing-away steering column, and you’d make a big score for accessibility.

Those aren’t bench seats. They’re just a shape of bucket that you’re not used to seeing. My dad had a Cutlass with swiveling seats. They were fun to play with but most of the time nobody bothered using them.

Shit, during ski season or after a hard workout (I’m active and generally healthy, but I’m 6’3” and my knees have next to no cartilage left in them), getting into and out of the stock seats in my M3 is low and painful enough. Swiveling toward the door would be amazing.

A lot of the handicapped vans do actually do this. So the person puts their wheelchair up the ramp through the trunk and they can spin the seat so they can sit down easier than spin it around
