One: the Ideal Jalopnik Car. I understand it’s gotta be the Miata and a brown diesel Volvo wagon, and there did come one time when there was a Jalop 320i but those are three separate cars. Is three cars OK, or do we need to have just one car to represent the Ideal Jalopnik car? Because we’re gonna need that definitive defining definition of said car for the next thing we have to talk about: The Apple Car.
Two: Yes, the Apple Car. I feel that such car will be the complete opposite of The Ideal Jalopnik Car, and then some. Should we have a Rebellion and keep our hard-earned cash off the Apple Car? Or should we wait until we get to know everything about the car? we’ve gotta reach a firm, decisive decision it quickly, because you know most people who buy Apple products.

There is no ideal Jalopnik car. The jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none mantra rings true for us.

Well, I don’t think a diesel car without a turbo has been sold where I live - Europe - since the mid nineties, but it would actually be pretty funny to see it chugging along with an old NA diesel.

I feel like neither the Miata or Volvo wagon is really that Jalop. They don’t have any inherent unreliability that must be overcome.

Yeah I feel like as much as I enjoy my Miata, its almost too practical. I sure enjoy it as my only car for now, but if it became my second car I would rather it be much less practical to give it more character. Like having 30mpg on the highway, room to fit everything for a weekend, and incredible reliability are great and all, but it makes life too easy lol.

Right? I mean what fun is your carefully planned trip without inconvenient mechanical failures when you least expect them? You’d have no reason to demonstrate your mechanical prowess to any traveling companions or uninterested bystanders.

The radiator started leaking about 200 miles into my recent 2800 mile road trip and it made it through the entire trip with only needing to top up the reservoir every 600 miles or so. Sure its nice to not have been stranded, but I didn't get to become an epic roadside mechanic and have to replace a radiator mid-trip. And when I did replace it, it only took all of 2 hours and was under $100.

As a Jalop, you need multiple cars. So when one or two are
broken
being worked on you can still get to
work
the auto parts store.
