On this date in 1937 the Golden Gate Bridge officially opened for traffic. As of January 2014, more than two billion vehicles have crossed the bridge.

I haven’t been across it in many years, but I love seeing it in the distance every day on my way to work.
The 50th anniversary was a bit of a mess, when 300,000 people were stuck on the bridge, the load causing it to sag seven feet. Don’t think the powers that be will allow that sort of thing again.
