This has been on my mind for a while, but what’s our stance/opinion on sharing our own posts and comments? Not awesome photographs and videos, just posts and comments. I don’t do it myself, but I see it more and more every day. At one point, I was pretty sure it was looked down upon, frowned upon, and now it’s a very common occurrence.

I see both sides of this. I get why some share their our posts and comments, as a means to share our opinions based on a current topic, to provoke some sort of dialogue or conversation; but on the other hand, some see it as just annoying. So what exactly is our stance on it? Which is accepted and which isn't?

Every time I share one of my own comments, it gets unshared by someone within 5 minutes. That should tell you all you need to know about my opinion on sharing my own comments, and everyone else’s.

That or I’m really unfunny.

Sharing posts? Fine.

Sharing comments? Don’t share your own comment.

Sharing your own comments is pointless, because somebody will unshare it right quick. Half the time you can only see a certain fragment of the comment anyways so there isn’t really a point.

I don’t like reposting, but if an article is really good. Then once is fine by my standards, but anymore than once is just plain annoying. The rules say otherwise though.

Every time I see “repost for the _____ crowd”.

It seriously takes me no more than 15 minutes to scan through a days worth of posts to find something that interests me. When I do, I open it in a new tab and read it when I’m ready. Nobody is doing me a favor by pushing other posts down so theirs can be back on top. I try to save it for when I need to do some crowdsourcing and get opinions or answers. Or I might share a comment if the comment could have been it’s own post. But I’d rather just start a new post and reference the conversation creatively.

I’ve only ever done it when I’ve written something I feel can stand on its own and is worth discussing. Even then I usually C&P it into a new post.

I’m assuming my post sparked this question. I scheduled it to share earlier this morning when I was having issues with pictures uploading with the hopes that it would be corrected by then, but forgot to cancel it. Oops...

If you know how to unshare a post without deleting the original, please let me know.

No not at all. I enjoyed reading that post this afternoon and this evening. It’s a damn good and little bit funny post. That’s something I see as worth reposting.

But when there’s something that just doesn’t make sense or isn’t worth reposting, or just self comments. I just wasn’t sure where the line was drawn.

Please don't be offended by my post. :(

No offense taken...just trying to edumacate myself. :)

I’m curious to see where this discussion goes as I see this kind of stuff a lot. Thanks for asking so I didn’t have to post and repost another post to find out!

I don’t see a problem with sharing posts.

And I largely don’t mind sharing comments.

I thought the deal was sharing comments was generally discouraged unless it’s really funny, and sharing posts once is ok if, for example, it’s something you worked hard on and thought should have gotten more views, Kinja borked it, or it’s an interesting crosspost (ie Overland, LaLD, etc).

While it happens a lot, it seems to be much less of a problem than multiple posts about the same thing burying other unique stuff (see Clarksongate/Fracasghazi, themes, Kinja issues, etc).
