By literal definition, this ran when parked.

Kinja'd!!!

-It ran.

-It was parked.

So, it ran when parked.

It means that the car used to run when it was parked.

I think that’s kind of the joke.

People who are trying to sell something (that is probably a piece of shit) on CL say that it “ran when parked” because they have no idea whether or not it actually runs as of the time of posting, but it sounds reassuring to an absent-minded buyer.

It means the parking brake failed.

I can’t stand when people say “ran when parked”. Its pointless. That’s like someone selling this:

Kinja'd!!!

and saying “floated when last used”.

No snark here — to me it means “When I sell this POS to you and it doesn’t run because the tranny grenanded and I also threw a rod last time I drove it, I’m going to declare ignorance.”

I take it as: Hey this isn’t a complete and utter waste of time to read because it wasn’t parked due to the transmission going out or engine being blown. So it may be fixable without being exorbitantly expensive.

Literally every car ran when parked. You can crash into a wall at 100mph and the car will have been running when it was parked there.

Not really. If the engine blew it didn't run when it was parked.

The moment the engine blows, it’s getting parked.

It’s craigslist code for: “Does not currently run, and it’s not the battery or any of the other easy fixes. If I could spend half an hour and get another thousand bucks for a car that works, you can bet I would have already.” But they will tell you it just needs a new battery, and will run like new once you have that. It’s a polite warning to those that know better, that they are trying gyp those who don’t. It only takes one.

But it’s not running as its parked.

If the engine blows, it would be coasting first.

I dunno. It still moves in the process of parking.

Regardless, we can agree that the important factor here is whether or not the key was used to turn off the engine.

It’s not running though.

I assume that ran when parked doesn’t mean ‘it was running then stopped running so I parked it’

I also assume it means ‘this car needs a shitload of work’

I dunno. I’m just saying that it ran up until the point when it was parked.
