We had a 1989 suburban just like this. it had a two tone repaint that was better than factory and super clean. I loved that interior, even as a kid I knew it was special.

Loved this general area....
I always thought this was high tech because everyone else’s cars had the levers and turn dials back then

I remember those, my aunt had that year...I thought it was so futuristic!

PFFT! You call that simple? I see armrests, cup holders, power windows & carpet.
My truck has vinyl bench seat, vinyl floor, crank up windows,no cup holders and not even a headliner.

The designer in me hates that. So much almost lines up, but doesnt.

Heck yeah, ours was all blue inside with a wooded ice chest center console. 2 tone paint as well. As a kid, it was super roomy

I don’t want bare sheetmetal, I the 80’s was the golden age for design meets utility in truck interiors.

I think there is an argument to made that they weren’t simple because they were utilitarian. Rather they were simple because it was the 80s(70s?) and every interior looked liked that.

lol this is kickass :] Reminds me of a NES contrller. Love it so much!

I think thats what I like about this era, they were trying to make the interiors more appealing by bringing in car style, but they still were tough and simple. Plus all those gauges! I love a good comprehensive gauge cluster.

That T-handle shifter though!

My ‘03 Yukon has a pretty simply design to it. It has a lot of buttons and features but the design itself is undoubtedly very simple.

The GMT400 was the first generation of the plastic fantastic and the “fall apart long before they die” approach. We had a 1997 and that interior was crap. Simple in layout, but garbage in execution. I’m not sure if they got better with the 600, but I would hope so.

On the 5-speed auto equipped Chrysler products you could order a pretty sweet one from Mopar accessories. The new Chargers/Challengers just come standard with a similar one.

The 800 interior is way better than the 400. It still has a full plastic dashboard but the entire door panels have a softer material used like a vinyl or alike. Seats are bigger and more comfortable than the 400 seats, with a little better bolstering. There is some areas of the interior that feel kind of cheap, specifically in things like the window controls (very thin switches) and the buttons (labels scratch off them after a while).
What I always found funny is that the bottom half of the door panel in the GMT800 is softer than the door panel in the GMT900.

This looks super luxurious and comfy compared to my ‘80 Hilux. Although I do have the gauges and wing windows!

One of the reason’s I still like my 1st Gen Tacoma. I don’t get memorized by driving trinkets, I just want to turn on the A/C. With a dial, without looking.

Want futuristic?
That came out of a 1978 Lincoln...

My 1991 Saab 900 had no cup holders, but power everything (nothing worked when I got it....)
I found out however, that a very specific coffee cup fit perfectly into the massive center console storage area, and would only spill on all of your possessions all the time no matter what you did. Needless to say, my love of coffee took precedent over my desire for non-coffee covered possessions.
