Always amusing.
On a side note, I still like the W221 a LOT.

The part of car culture I hate more than any other is the poseur and oh man I just saw the alpha poseur.
Sure you might not impress random car people with your decade old S Class but you won’t give a shit as you adjust the intensity of your back massaging seats.

Someone named EvenMcM. owns about half of the comments...

On the one hand, I hate when people immediately assume that Tavarish is suggesting that everyone ought to sell their family car and buy a high-milegage uber-luxury car. He’s no fool.
On the other hand, sometimes Tavarish does come across as expecting everyone to be as mechanically inclined as him. Like, who doesn’t know how to completely dismantle, diagnose, and repair the air suspension, biturbo V12, and miles of wiring in an S600?

Indeed.

My criticism, other than the Corvette fiasco, is that he’s kind of milking his rep as a flipping guru, yet he himself has never done anything like buy a $50k used luxury car as far as I can tell, let alone a totaled Lambo or Corvette... He (I think?) bought a heavily depreciated S-class once upon a time for, what, 10k or less? So it’s a “small” investment for possibly a nice payoff. He needs to post stuff like that.
Also, he compares the pricing of a new “boring” car to a once-awesome used luxury car, but doesn’t feel that comparisons by readers between the new Accord to the luxury car is fair, yet posts stuff like, “yeah, but it’s still a Taurus :).”

Sure, but neither is he suggesting that everyone should do everything on their luxury sedan by themselves.

I just find it hilarious that for the past year when W220’s were posted they were perfectly reliable. now that a W221 is posted, “Well, W221’s are
much
more reliable than the problematic W220’s”

a 7k S-class is worth the risk. a 27k S-class is not worth the risk.

He didn’t know his “dream car” DB9 was a Ford project. Don’t forget about his half assed Cadillac repair as well. You
know
if it ran he would have dumped that on some poor sap.

I agree 100%. Also, what Corvette fiasco?
![]() 05/24/2015 at 18:49 |

Precisely. Let alone a wrecked Lambo.

Likely some average reliability thing in the hands of an average owner, not just someone who knows the damn things in and out and meticulously maintains it.

You know how you learn a car? replacing parts. that is an expensive learning curve on a S600.

You don’t need to tell me about replacing parts, my family has owned a metric fuckton of french cars in the past two decades.

Fact. Even I won’t buy a used V12 Mercedes without a warranty. Parts are just too expensive. $3k my cost for ignition coils and spark plugs? No thanks! And that’s not even talking about the suspension yet.
Although, if anybody wants one I would bet more than happy to
empty your bank account
fix it for you!

What’s the deal with him? Is he just an active FP’er?

I have no idea. I’m going to take a leap and say he’s a big fan of the W221 though.

He seems to have a presence on almost all of Tavarish article. Almost always defending Tavarish.

I noticed this as well. I think you and I might be thinking the same thing right now...
