My dad had an 82 camaro z28. 305ci, 165hp, 8.6 to 60mph and the 1/4 in 16.4. And it gets walked soundly by a 2014 mazda3 with the lowly 2.0 skyactiv with a measely 155hp. 0-60? 7.7. 1/4 in 15.9. 40mpg highway!
So sad.

A Ferrari 308 GTS is slower than today’s V6 Camrys/Accords.

For some extra perspective: 15mpg city, 21 highway and 17 combined. Pickups are now getting better numbers overall.
Many modern sports cars will have combined average fuel economy that matches or beats that highway figure, with double the horsepower, while being “beat on” mercilessly.

As far as I’m concerned, 1984-1985 1.1L RX7 Turbo: 165hp :)

8.6 0-60 aint too slow for something that big, but for a 305ci motor, thats incredibly inefficient

Can confirm. Own mazda3 with 2.0 skyactiv

It’s kind of amazing the advances in efficiency and performance we’ve seen in a short period of time.

Beat those figures with triple the horsepower, even.

8.6 seconds? My Jetta TDI can do that.

That’s what you get when you legislate a huge tech change. Not that it was a bad thing.

Being of, um, a certain age...I had a ‘77 280Z that did 0-60 in about the same time and that was a quick car for the era. People laugh today at the glacial acceleration of old Mercedes diesels but at that time they weren’t THAT much slower than other cars. The high output Corvette of that time (L92?) made 205 hp out of that 5.7 liter; the two liter VW parked in front of my house does 200 and will utterly wallop that ‘vetter or my 280Z...

The issue is that the cars of the late 60s and early 70s were significany quicker than in the 80s.

8.6 is comparable to the honda fit I had and I found that to have a negative value in accelerative excitement. They weren’t THAT heavy at 3300lbs. My 2012 V6 stang is 3400lbs.

Lovely cars right?

95% of cars on the market right now can match or beat that. It’s pretty sad.
