Here’s the thing, and I will say it about all websites, not just Jezz, unless you are just being a troll, you should be able to say whatever you damn well please without feeling like you have to tip toe around what you are trying to say. On that board, if you have an opinion that runs contrary to their hivemind, expect to trounced. It’s just my opinion, but I wouldn’t call that safe by a long shot.

It’s a matter of being able to take what you dish out, and from what I’ve seen at Jez, that isn’t the case. I’m not calling all of the people on that part of the web horrible, but there are quite a few there, that do in fact seem to be looking for something someone else says to be offended by.

As for the driving class...not a bad idea, that in and of itself would be worth an article. Hell, I volunteer as tribute for that one! I’ll be in Vegas in July, they have a lot of those schools there. Jalopnik powers that be, hit me up and we’ll work out something!

Also, if you haven’t ever done something outstandingly stupid in or with a car at some point, you don’t have the right to carry your jalop card.

I’m not exactly sure what has been said to you, you used to be a pretty level headed commentator, we’ve had some decent discussions in the past actually, but I’ve noticed you getting offended over various things recently when you do post. but that’s not my problem. I couldn’t really care less what others say, it’s just words. It’s the fucking internet. The sky is blue and shit will be said. It’s not good, it’s not bad, it’s just how it is.

My opinion is different than yours. I find Jez to be hostile, and I’m not a particularly sensitive person. You don’t. Again, that’s just how it is. As I already mentioned, I avoid the place because I don’t like to argue, especially when it makes no difference at all.

As for the second paragraph of your comment. Please leave out the all cap general responses, it shows a lack of thought and consideration for the point you are trying to make. You’re better than that.

Oh, I should probably apologize, too. I only used your comment as an example because it was made in this thread, so it was the closest example at hand.

And I know you didn’t use an expletive (neither did the other person who made a Jez-jab earlier today here on Oppo). My use of quotes wasn’t meant to apply attribution to your comments, but rather to the underlying sentiment that usually accompanies posts or comments by Oppos disparaging Jezebel or Jez’s commentariat. There have been some pretty nasty flame wars here started by comments from Oppos that carry that same “fucking Jezzies” sentiment.

I can see that now, and I’m not on the receiving end of it so could never gain full comprehension, but consider my lesson learnt. I actually frequent Jezebel, but never comment. Likewise with Jalopnik. Oppo is where I sit, and I have obviously missed the previous friendly debates flame wars. I guess I’ll just have to reserve any attempted satire for Land Rovers and various other unreliables. Thank you for the explanation.

First, when did I ever say I was a Jezzie? Just because I’m a woman and a feminist doesn’t mean I frequent that particular branch of the Gawker Media tree. You made that assumption all on your own, hon.

Secondly, you haven’t set me off at all. Like I was telling another Oppo earlier today, mine and Yama’s (and many other women Oppos’) continued criticisms of sexism on Oppo has nothing to do with petty emotional reactions. But they DO have everything to do with working to make Oppo the place it advertises itself to be in the handbook. It’s about working to eliminate both the overt sexism on Oppo and the sexism that is perpetuated via microaggressions. Those things make Oppo hostile to its women members, yet we’re constantly told to just get over it. Sorry, but that’s not going to happen. This is MY community. This is Yama’s community. This is your community, too. I’m not going to sit here and let my community be less than what it has the potential to be.
