I need Oppinions . This is a fairly specific scenario, I know, but it’s an !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , so try and pretend.
Say you were going lease a new sports cars that’s $80-$120K. You live an hour away from any luxury dealerships (but every brand is within right about an hour). If the car breaks down it’s a PITA, unless the dealership comes and gets it. Look, sound and feel are more important than flat out speed. A race car won’t do, it needs a reasonable degree of refinement.
What would you get?

Panamera, because family truckster ;)
![]() 05/20/2015 at 20:45 |

Way less likely to break down than its counterparts.

The one you’ve pictured. We will be purchasing one in 3-4 years, new, when the wife finishes her Masters and nets a high paying financial role
![]() 05/20/2015 at 20:47 |

Probably a Merc SL550.

Ah, I should have DQ’d this at the start.
While I heartily agree with you FULLY, alas, the guy driving it had a really bad time with a C5 about 15 years back. He’d be fine with getting one, but his wife’s long and vengeful memory of the car makes it an impossible selection.

One of the only supercars you can actually DD.

An Evora or a GTR.
But yeah, wow you’re lucky

I’m going to break nearly every one of your rules and suggest this.
It’s nearly 80k with options but over 80k if you customize it like above.
And my nearest Lexus dealer is 15 minutes away.

I ain’t mad at you, it’s a good rec actually, hadn’t really thought about the top end of that model.

The GTR is actually known for having a harsh ride, and being loud and clunky on the road and a lot of GTR owners don’t DD them because of it.

Ahh. The old so and so hand a so and so x amount of years ago so theyre all bad thing. Yeah, its hard to turn those people back.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 20:51 |

I am pretty sure if you are that price range the dealer will come get the car if it breaks.
Unless it’s a Corvette zo6, if you buy a $100,000 Corvette the Chevy dealer will still treat you like you bought a $3,000 Cobalt that still needs the “a little recall work done,” off the backlot.
That being said, Corvette zo6.
EDIT: Just saw you above post.
The fastest 911 he can afford.

Ah yes, it’s a fine ride. My wife’s boss has one, and that’s actually the complicating factor for the GT-R. These two guys go way back and unless my dad got an identical one as my wife’s boss, there’d be trouble. Less nice, and my wife’s boss talks shit about his “bobo GT-R.” More nice then it’d become an ugly game of one upsmanship. The exact one would then result in accusation of copy catting. Yes these men are aged 47 and 60, and yes they still act like children.

911 Carrera, there is no substitute!
I daily a 997 which used was under $30k; so knowing that I could get a cheaper used or CPO car would be the only downside.
Honestly though I would be hesitant to buy a new luxury car so far away from the dealer. Taking care of simple warranty stuff or oil changes would be a pain. A Stingray might be more practical if there is a dealer closer to you.

M5. Not a “sports car” I know. But some sports-car like performance......borderline supercar performance.......in a luxury sedan package. THe original, and still best, sports sedan for this price range.

“Most of us don’t live near a race track, nor do we try to turn the streets into one, but I know a fun car when I drive one and the GTR was the opposite of that. Absolutely no feedback to me as the driver, bone-shatteringly harsh ride, weird clunks in the gearbox and zero refinement.” Owner review from right here on Oppo.

I hear you. I’m prying him out a series of 750i’s. I’m not sure it he’d go elsewhere in the brand, though the M6 grand coupe peeked his interest.

![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:08 |

Oh, I know better than to try to change someone’s opinion on the GTR. Clearly your mind is already made up about how the car drives and that’s that. Don’t let silly things like facts and how GTR owners feel about their cars get in the way.

If depreciation is a concern, get a Honda. No really, they seem to hold their value better than anything, so it may be worth it to wait until the NSX comes out.

Going to deviate from the rules a bit here and say that I would buy a lightly used Audi R8 V8. They are now well in the $80k price range, leaving you a solid twenty grand to spend on fuel, tires, and insurance. Yeah, yeah, this one’s an auto, but it serves the point. Audi : R8 Base Coupe 2-Door

E63 AMG. The S550 is officially ugly.
I would love to get the new CTS-V though.

I may get to drive the thing once in a while so I’m rooting for a 911, since I’m 6’7” 360, but I’d cram myself into a Cayman:)
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:11 |

Right, because for $100k you can embarrass almost every other car on the planet. It also has decent space in the back and decent truck space. I’ve been in cars with firm suspension. It doesn’t affect me that much.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:13 |
|
Heh, unfortunately there is a short timetable here. I
I’m not saying the things have to hold there value absolutely, but Jags and AMGs lose value so quickly they make me queasy on principle.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:15 |

Me? Easy.
But I also have a special place in my heart for the Z4 and i8. But those are on opposing sides of your price range.

The 2016 Caddie CTS-V. Z06 power, Cadillac luxury and style. Also 10x more aggressive than your puny German whatever-the-hell.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:19 |
|
Caddy has a damn identity crisis. The only thing they are doing really well is making fast-as-hell-honest-to-goodness driver’s cars, but that doesn’t fit the history of their brand AT ALL. So why did GM make the V’s under the Caddy badge? I don’t get it.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:21 |

911 C2S. I almost got it too. And then family sense invaded me and I got a M235i.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:24 |

Nobody is saying it’s slow. It’s just a car with a suspension tuned for the track and a transmission made to race.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:26 |

An Oppo review is far from “fact.” I’ve spent some time in a GT-R, it’s SO not as bad as people pretend it is in reviews. No one that I actually know who has driven one feels any of these things about the car, jsyk. They are a fucking blast.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:26 |

The Evora has a Camry engine, so it will be super reliable. And Nissan makes good cars, too.
The Camry and Corolla have street cred! The Camry’s engine in the Evora and Corolla engines in the Elise/Exige!
Even po folk with older cars end up with hybrids, auto stop (when the car stalls), and you have to keep your foot on the gas (launch control!)
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:27 |

Now would you be opposed to a Lamborghini Gallardo or a Ferrari 612 or 456 or F430?

F-Type. F-Type. F-Type.
We haven’t had any come back broken and even had our first used one come in and be sold at 16,000 miles. If you fit, that is. It’s a little more cramped than other cars in the segment, but has about the same interior space as a GT-R.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:31 |

Too rich for our blood. Even 7 year old Scags are still well into the 6-figures. All of them are difficult cars to DD, at least I’d imagine. Again, too rich:)

seriously though, baby aston with a manual. basically all that needs to be said about the matter
bonus: unlikely to depreciate too much (cause even the cheap astons probably wont drop below a certain threshold on looks alone)
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:50 |
|
That’s a thought, the R’s hang on to value a bit better, and unlike most AMG that drop to 20K in like 6 years and then stay well below there permanently.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 21:56 |
|
Also what about a 911 Turbo? Just a plain ole Turbo? Or like a air cooled Porsche? Or too old?

Absolutely, I actually sent him this video last night to meditate on.
He said it ALMOST made him want manual.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 22:10 |

At first I thought, wait why is no one suggesting this... so I looked a few up and it seems as you’d be paying a bit over your price limit at 140,000, but for that I feel maybe a good lease deal can be worked out? Options happen at a sickening rate though.
or you could go the slightly used route and go with this stunning example. I even found you one in Florida [tampa] 2012 base model with only 5000 miles for under 100,000 (alright alright its 99,980) ! It may still even be under warranty and gives you a little leeway for if anything breaks.

Ya I’ve been looking at like 911SC s and they are nice little cars it would go great with my Gran Torino as well. but also have you looked into the Audi R8 or RS5?
![]() 05/20/2015 at 22:26 |

R8s are too much and RS5s aren’t enough. Kind of in the sense of price, but in substance as well, for the buyer.
Me personally? The RS5 would be very compelling.

He’s had 3 7’s in a row, so a 6 really isn’t that much of a revalatory of experience the m4 would be fun but they are kind of goofy in this generation, imo, sort of overwrought.
Perhaps a drive in an M6 would be worthwhile though....

They're really trying to remake the image, which might work if GM really can pull it off. However, it's gonna take a helluva lot of work
