The E-Series 15-passenger van has been a staple of the Film and Television industry for decades, but the new Transit’s are starting to show up on sets all over Hollywood.
I haven’t been on set for a while, so this has been my first experience with them. I spent a day in a high roof on our tech scout, and today our Gangboss brought a standard model in to shuttle crew.
My first impressions are generally good. The seats are more comfortable, and access to the them is greatly improved. Instead of multiple rows of benches, the Transit has individual seats and a center access aisle. Though small it’s still better than the old routine of squeezing down the side of the E-series while trying not to get tangled in the seatbelts no one ever puts on.
I haven’t driven one yet, so I can’t comment on how it drives. From the passenger perspective though, ride quality is greatly improved. As I said, I spent a day on a tech scout in one. I sat in the backseat for 10 hours while on my computer and didn’t get sick or hit my head on the roof. I consider that a win.

I like them. Hopefully they make a minivan version.

Yeah, the times certainly are changing. Even Blue Bird is getting into the Transit craze (seriously, I’ve been seeing new Transits all over the place).
The new Micro Bird T-Series.

Turbos are too finicky for utility.

I recently got to experience an E series van for the first time, they drive pretty well for what they do, and their size. I’ve also had a similar experience with the Transit connect. It was tiny and weird, especially for a panel van to be powered by a 4 cylinder.

or a mini mini van.
There is a smaller Transit caller the Transit Custom.
Though neither van is sold in the U.S.

The Cummins ISX15 would like a word with you.
As would the PACCAR MX-13.
As would pretty much any engine in any Freightliner, Kenworth, Mack... You get the idea.
