I dig it, would like to buy one once I’ve become filthy-rich and forgotten about you guys, but tell me: how, and what do I look for? And are there still more naked chronographs from other brands?

You should check out the Website called ABlogtoWatch. It’ll make you cringe...some watches are amazing then you see the price and realize you could get a nice house in NYC for that.

Yup, they have some crazy watches on there. Just browse around the articles and you’ll find some that are powered by Pistons, pullies, some that have moon rocks in them, and parts of the Titanic!

The one on the front page was commissioned by Michael Schumacher!

I’m guessing that the time is 10:05:45 but then again the purple things in the middle of the V may have some meaning. What the 30 on the bottom is is another matter. Seconds?
Anyway it just shows that the more you pay for your watch the less effective it is at actually telling the time.

Article is a few years old and with only 350 units produced...how’s the secondhand (wrist?) market look? I have a wood watch that no one will adjust for me and a plain blue Seiko 5 so I’m not watch savvy by any means.

A wood watch? I’ve seen a few of those. Why won’t they adjust it? Is the back glued instead of screwed in with a rubber cap?
As for the Second Hand market. I am terrified of it online. I’ve spent alot of time overseas and I’ve seen some amazing reproductions of almost any watch. I have a few Omegas in a drawer that still work despite being fake.
I’d recommend going to a small mom/pop place to check on your watch. They may be able to explain the process to get it adjusted or fixed. I send my Omega (I saved 5 years for) to the factory every 2 years or so to get serviced and they send me back my watch with a warranty for another year. It is fantastic. I have to get my Berkbender and Brown watch adjusted soon.

The only brands that matter are Jaeger-LeCoutre, Constantin Vacheron, Patek Philippe, A Lange & Sohne, Audemars Piguet, and Breguet.

Anything you know that’s close to a Hublot?

Good list. I inherited an old Jaeger from my father and it still keeps time perfectly even though it must be over 60 years old. I also like Omegas for high end sport watches and I will cop to a soft spot for my Breitling as well since it was the first nice watch I owned.

If you like the looks Hublots then I think a Hublot is the way to go. I can’t stand them, but then again I like more traditional designs.

Omega needs to accept that they won’t ever be Rolex. That being said, I’d love a 1960s Speedmaster.

Last time: Cheapest see-the-internals watch?

Oh it’s not broken, I just wanted someone familiar with watches to take a few links out so I didn’t muck it up. It looks like I’ll be doing it myself though.

Oh. Hmm. Probably something from China. Like a Akribox XXIV for like $150.

Go for a Fossil. I have one that is automatic (winds up with movement) that the wife got me for my bday, runs about 170.

Check out the Devon Tread watch. An absolutely gorgeous piece of engineering. The exact reason that I love watches and cars.
This thing though, I could not tell you how it works anymore than I could tell you how black holes work.

I prefer Omega to Rolex - although it’s probably because everyone I work with gets a Rolex as their first nice watch but me. Sort of the same reason I don’t like 911s. In addition to a couple of modern Omegas, I’ve got my father’s old mid-60s Constellation which is nice with a tux, and a 1971 Flightmaster which is one of my favorite sports watches ever.

Oh, that’s neat.
Easier to read, too.

You won’t find chronographs like the one in your photo wheeler. lol thats one of those “every now and then” watches.
Party=vi is right with the brands mentioned. Those brands didn’t get jacked up during the time when electronic watches showed up. Are they pricey? Yeah but just like cars, you know what is quality and who was just slapping parts together.
