My school issues private $10 parking tickets for any parking violations it perceives on the property. Normally, I don’t get these, but today the lots were particularly crowded, since the seniors left and all students without passes were allowed to park in the lot. This, combined with the fact that I was running late, meant I couldn’t find a single space in the small lot. Rather than drive away and park in the neighborhood, I parked very unobtrusively in a small area that was not a space (but did no harm), took out an old, paid-off ticket I got in November, and put in on the windshield. Sure enough, enforcement thought I already had a ticket and spared me. However, a couple students thought I had gotten a ticket and tweeted pictures of my car with things like #dumbass. Fortunately I told enough people that these tweeters are gradually being corrected. And now people think I’m some kind of genius.

Too bad nobody will ever get away with that again.

Yup. Although I think it’s a small enough group (and more importantly, students only) that it may work a few more times for a few more people.

When I was driving to high school in the ancient history times of 1998-2000, my school issued parking passes in the form of transparent stickers you put on the inside of your rear windshield. Some kids who didn’t have their own car would stick these stickers to a cassette tape case, and put it in the rear deck of whichever car their parents let them drive that day.

While I could’ve gotten my parents to pay for the pass, each semester there was a waiting period to see who got a pass, and it was based on seniority and there was some other BS involved in the process.

So I took a friend’s parking pass from the last semester, designed a new one in Photoshop, and printed it on an inkjet transparency sheet and made a backing for it with plain white paper. The permit number was printed in a transparent part of the real parking passes so I cut a window out of the white paper for where the number was.

It wasn’t a perfect forgery, but I stuck it in a cassette tape holder to obscure the fakeness. Unlike now where everyone would be talking about it on twitter, I kept it on the DL and only let a select few friends know what I had done.

I never once got a parking ticket.

No clue. Soemtimes they don’t give them out, but most days they do. Our school has very limited parking.

This does NOT work in NYC. Those parking assholes will just give you more tickets on top of the first one. I know from experience.

Right? If it’s a ticket issued not around any “law” or by any law enforcement then why the fuck would any pay it?

Having gone to college, I can probably answer my own question. They probably won’t let folks graduate without paying these off.

You’re lucky man, our school gives $25 parking tickets, and they only moved junior parking up about 20-30 spaces when the seniors left. Not sure if they tow people at your school either but that isn’t uncommon. Also, there’s been a kid saran wrapping kids’ cars when they park like idiots. Safe to say the number of horribly crooked/over the line parking jobs has GREATLY decreased. Also, I’m digging the A8, love that generation of those cars!

We don’t get towed unless it’s really bad. i.e. parked in fire lane or a handicapped spot, or on other non-school private property like the Starbucks across the street.

My community college told me I could not graduate if I did not pay my tickets, they already released my transcripts to the University I was transferring to so I told them to go pound sand. It felt good.

It’s going to be interesting tomorrow, I have to drag a 12’ mason dump trailer to school, as I have a job immediately after. Guarantee they’ll give me a hard time for not having the trailer as a “registered and permitted vehicle” maybe I’ll just back it in like normal and let my car hang 10’ out into the lot.. Decisions..

My school doesn’t let us park in the lot for 1st or 4th quarters because the gym classes use it (even though the lot is total shit) so all the streets surrounding the school are full of cars. The joys of a small school.
