I think that is a great bad idea. He currently drives a 2009 Lancer GT and he believes in german reliability because he is a bit of a moron. God I love the S6

*notes german reliability is shit*
*notes dads 100k miles A3 tdi thts needed exactly nothing other then regular oil changes (and cleaning the EGR vavle twice) in 100k miles*
yep german reliability, total myth

and he believes in german reliability

“he believes in german reliability because he is a bit of a moron”
Hahahaha. Dont let jkm7860 see that.

I won’t argue with that, the TDI A3 is reliable. A 2002 60k miles V8 S6 will not be reliable.

The 4.2 has been a good egg for me so far.

I know, the mileage and 0 problems in your A8L were what almost convinced me to buy the S8 or that black A8. I really wanted a Range Rover though.

That made me laugh, bless you.

a) Is it well maintained?
b) Can he afford to maintain it properly?
c) Is it armored?
If a) and b) apply then it will be reliable.
![]() 05/19/2015 at 14:16 |

a) Yes
b) Not sure.
c) Yes, it is.

Show him this picture of the Audi 4.2 V8 timing chains:
Here’s an excerpt of what’s involved in fixing it :
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It is then required to remove the engine and remove the rear main timing chain cover. Do a visual inspection on all the timing chain components and look for broken guides, defective tensioners, stretched timing chain, sludge buildup, and defective adjuster. When the oil changes are not done at 5000 miles, the engine starts to buildup sludge and this can cause the tensioners to collapse and fail, cam adjusters to fail and not allow them to advance and retard the timing when the ecu demands a action, and guides get worn out excessively to the point that they become weak and bridle and break into multiple pieces which can cause a oil restriction anywhere in the oil lubrication system leading to more damage in the engine. Because of the correlation problem between the cam to crank we also do a cylinder leak down test to check for bent valves.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It is highly recommended to do the full timing chain service which includes replacing the timing chains, timing chain tensioners, timing guides, cam adjuster solenoids, and the cam adjuster on each cylinder head.

Notes whiskey golfs GTI which burned to the ground one night and then of course Agarajags’ which had the engine replaced. Notes Tom’s GTI which has also been back for a recall already.

I thought whisy had the 2.5, not a GTI?
Havent heard of aras.
Wasnt tomes back because they didnt know to remove the plastic shipping pucks?

b) Not sure.
Shit you said he currently drives a Lancer didn’t you. Another german luxury car lost to peasants.
![]() 05/19/2015 at 14:25 |

I much prefer the other method.
Step 1: Fuck this shit.
Step 2: If you want a reliable V8, go buy a Chevy small-block or a Yamaha-sourced N/A V8 from Lexus.

Well his parents have money and he really likes cars.
![]() 05/19/2015 at 14:31 |

Actually, those are pretty good cars for the most part. That era of 4.2 is really a decent engine, oil leaks notwithstanding. Of course they don’t take well to neglect, but if kept up on they can give a good long service life.

ooooo 100k miles? you mean the break in period?

It’s amazing how people in South America think that German cars are absolutely bulletproof and will last forever.
I have had so many people say “Oh that _______ will last for ever. I mean, I could buy it now and it would be as good as new”
![]() 05/19/2015 at 15:09 |

And then this happens.

Y u no buy S8?

Jesus that is almost as scary as the Jaguar V12
![]() 05/19/2015 at 16:39 |
|
Are they better or worse than the S8 D2? (or the same)
![]() 05/19/2015 at 16:47 |
|
Mechanically the same. The S8 would be the more expensive to care for though because of electronics & body system differences and much more unique interior equipment.
