I’m noticing that it’s slightly harder to find a stock B5 S4 than it is to find a stock B6 S4. Twin turbos Vs. a V8 is a really tough one though. I do know that the 4.2 really opens up and sounds amazing with a simple exhaust system but I’m not too sure about the 2.7TT out of the B5. With prices dipping below $10,000, I’m not sure if I can help myself on this one.

I don’t get how it is this cheap considering it looks repaired. Time to swoop in and get it.

The whole timing belt thing is scary but man, I'm with you. I want an Avant so I can haul around mountain bikes whilst hauling ass.

Chances are, if I get an S4 the B5 would probably have to go. I’ve only got one parking space sadly.

The timing belt thing doesn’t affect all cars, and it’ll be in the service history if it’s been completed. So that’s a good thing! :P

No the timing chain issue does not effect all cars, but chances are that finding a B6 S4 in your price range would mean that it hasn’t had its timing chain replaced yet and that is why the price is going to be that low. Just something to consider. Also I’m not an expert but i think even if the timing chain has been replaced once they replace it with stock Audi parts so isn’t it susceptible to the same issues in the future?

Either way I love the B6 / B7 S4’s and that glorious V8. I am currently the owner of a B8.5 S4 and when i can justify having a B6 that isn’t my daily driver I will buy one just for that sound again.

Good luck!

Thanks man,

The timing chain issue usually occurs somewhere between 80k and 140k I think. So chances are, if something like that was to be replaced it would last.

Yea you would hope so. But by the same logic if you got a car where the timing chain hadn’t been replaced you could be driving a car where it could blow at any moment. And i think that with your budget chances are the owner wouldn’t have spent the 8 grand at a dealer or the 4 grand on parts alone to fully replace the timing chain completely and correctly. Just something to consider.

Yup, I’m looking into one at a BMW dealer that I think has service records. A warranty would be a huge plus though.
