One of my drivers is looking to rent his car for STPR next month. We set top 15 stage times all weekend with it last year, as well as the longest jump of the event. Can rent it as an open or open light class car.

There’s a Stone Temple Pilots Rally?

I promise not to bury it in a snowbank.

I was wondering as well

Want to - Yes
Can afford to/Can drive - No
:(
I will however be there bumbling about on the radio and keeping spectators from becoming meat chunks.

Yeah, but it’s a cover for a Scott Wieland intervention.

How much? Also my only experience is the team O’Neil five day school. You can run open light as an amateur, right?

about that............

by rent to you mean just hand me the keys? can I go above 30 mph this time?

I’d be interested though it would depend on the specifics of course. I’m a Novice, so the car would have to be OL, and this would be my first proper rally. Otherwise I’ve done 4-days at O’Neil’s in the winter and a couple of rallycrosses. I would certainly understand if your driver was looking for someone with more seat time.

I don't think he'd be too concerned about experience. His girlfriend just used it for a rally sprint and all she'd done previously was a few rallycrosses. Besides, he has a new car, so this isn't his primary anymore. I'll ask what his price is.

Yes, you can do open light as a noob. I'll ask his price.

$3500 full arrive and drive. Includes fuel, service crew, tires, etc.

Seems reasonable, but I can’t afford that right now. Too much money tied up in building my own cars.

I think what you meant to ask was: Any way we can rent banjocat to drive a rally car and win STPR?
The answer is I suppose, pending I get paid in doughnuts. Sourdough.

I can vouch for this guy, and his crew. Super cool people, all of them. If there's another RallySprint in New England later this year, I'm tempted to hit him up myself if I can.

OOH. That’s not too bad for an arrive and drive, TBH. I wish I could just pay someone to do all the hard stuff on the Parsh so I could just show up to hoon it.
Prolly can’t, though. They barely let me run the Parsh on pavement.

Then you should run it on dirt

About that,
What about just starting out? I’d think it’d be fun to rent a car prior to building one then finding out that your expectations were too high. And not your cup of tea.
Ballpark rental figures?

$3,500 full arrive and drive. All you need is the safety gear. Rookies welcome, the car in Open Light trim is great for first-timers.

If you know anyone willing to rent a RWD car in the future I’d be up for that
![]() 05/19/2015 at 20:08 |

Not many of those around to be had, and frankly until you get enough coefficients to run Group 5 you’ll be much quicker in a FWD, but I’ll keep an eye out.
![]() 05/19/2015 at 20:24 |
|
I’m sure it’s faster, but RWD is more fun. I’ve got an e36 328is which I’m hoping will be fast for group 2. Also group 5 sounds expensive.

Its a definite maybe right now, sounds reasonable but I need a day or two to think it over and double check my ‘fun’ budget. I’ll be in touch.

Group 5 varies in price, just like all the classes. G5 is just like G2 but with bigger/turbo/supercharged/rotary engines. I’ve been in $7,000 G5 cars and $50,000 G2 cars (also $5,000 G2 cars and $50,000 G5 cars). There’s really no correlation between class and price. In terms of fun though, those little front drivers will shock you when you push them right. I had more fun in a Fiesta piloted by Troy Miller than in a classic 911, or any other car I’ve been in for that matter. I also think Troy was more sideways than any other driver.

No problem, no rush :)

Those little 100hp fiestas at team O’Neil were surprisingly fast. It seems to mostly come down to driver anyway.
I’m definitely aiming for the $5000 G2. Generally though don’t the faster classes demand better ($$) suspension components?
![]() 05/19/2015 at 22:48 |
|
It’s more accurate to say better suspension components make a car faster regardless of class. In both national and regional divisions well set up G2 cars often rival or trump the G5 cars. The first time I sat with Troy we were in an old G2 Golf GTI and we beat G5 BMWs and Datsuns. Meanwhile at 100 Acre Wood this year an Open Light car was third fastest overall, only being beat by David Higgins and David Sterckx.

Hey, just a heads up but it looks like its not going to work for me. Changing jobs soon and its not in the money or time budget right now.

Fair enough, thanks for the heads up!
