Here’s Benoit Carrier. He’s in the happy position of owning the Delahaye 175 which won the 1951 Monte Carlo Rally. He keeps his engine in this state with a rusty manifold, red painted block and somewhat used dynamo.

Here on the other hand is the engine of a Saoutchik Delahaye 175 owned by an American gazillionaire. He keeps it like this:
Now, which is more appropriate? Garage queen or looking like someone actually uses it?

Does Benoit Carrier actually drive his? If so, the answer is obvious.

The used engine looks more interesting.

Answer is I don’t know although it certainly looks like it, but I suppose its restoration v preservation. One has been kept running and in one piece, the other was allowed to deteriorate and then restored from the ground up at vast expense. How much of it is original is a good question.

If he actually drives it like that, I’d go with Benoit’s Delahaye.
If not, it’s a garage queen anyway. Might as well make it shiny.
