I’ll admit I am partially at fault here, but so was the guy going 65+ in a 45.

When I pulled up next to the Fusion, I saw the Volvo coming through his tinted windows. Now, I drive this way A LOT, and know this intersection well. I know by where the oncoming car is how much time I have to go or NOT go. By my judgement (and if he’d been doing the limit or 5-10 over) I would have had time to accelerate my POS to 45, 50, 55 if needed.

I could have waited until he passed, as there was no one behind him, but my being in a hurry got the better of me.

When the Fusion went, so did I.

I goofed.

BUT, as I said, if the guy had not been going so far over the limit, he never would have gotten near me. As it were, by the time I was at the limit and still accelerating, he was ON MY ASS, peering left. At least he waited until it was legal to pass.

He later took the same turn that I take, and disappeared out of view. He had to be hauling ass the whole way.

The best part? He has the only turbo brick 740 wagon in the area, with easy to spot personalized plates. Why speed and tailgate in such a easy to spot car?

You got up to 55 in 200 feet? Impressive.

The description you gave does not match with the dashcam footage. You cut the guy off, and he passed you pretty much immediately.

So cross traffic doesn’t stop, and you rolled the stop sign? Had he hit you, you would have gotten the ticket had he been speeding or not.

Isn't that an 850 wagon?

He didn’t pass until after I stopped accelerating at 55. He was still going way over the limit, and would not have been cut off by me if he hadn’t.

I think you’re right. I haven’t seen it in awhile up close.

Barely rolled. Not to mention the Fusion that was also proceeding through the intersection next to me, he would have taken the brunt of the impact.

If he cut the guy off, there would be screeching tires, crunching metal and broken glass.

He enters the frame eight seconds after you started going from the stop sign. You cut him off, dude.

I don’t deny that. At all. My point is, from where he WAS when I first saw him, I had ample time to pull out and get up to speed without cutting him off IF he wasn’t grossly speeding. Hence the multiple wrongs...

Why did you pass that Fusion at a stop sign when it’s a single lane? There is no turning lane there. You also rolled that stop and by the looks of it almost got t-boned.

It widens to the point where two cars can fit. The Fusion would have been t-boned.... I just rear ended.

This looks like a no-harm, no-foul situation. Yeah, you definitely blew it by not giving yourself time to gauge the speed of incoming traffic. Your responsibility at the stop sign isn’t to judge if crossing traffic is traveling at legal speed, it’s to judge if there is sufficient time/space to make your turn. Regardless, the wagon executed a safe, competent pass, so it’s all good.

Also, what’s the problem with speeding in a distinctive car? I bet everyone around my neighborhood recognizes my red Abarth... I just try to be respectful when I drive.
