You know, I’ve driven a Crosstour, and aside from looking terrible, it’s actually a pretty nice car. Comfy, tons of room, real nice interior (this was an EX-L), pretty decent handling and pickup for a family hauler. If Honda gave up on trying to make it look trucky and just designed a tall wagon (and called it a CUV), they’d have a pretty decent vehicle on their hands.
The overall shape is actually not bad looking. The problem is they took what is basically a swoopy hatchback/wagon thing, put a blocky wannabe-truck grille on it, and raised the suspension.
Then when it didn’t sell, Honda doubled down on the wannabe-truck body cladding and grille with the refresh.
If you take the pre-refresh version, de-bling it, and lower it, it’s not beautiful, but at least decent.
Honda actually did something similar with the Crosstour HFP concept several years ago.
The refreshed version though? Blech.
