I’ve been car shopping for a V8 car for a few months unsuccessfully. I’ve looked at a dozen or so cars by now including Mach 1’s, Trans Ams, Camaros, and a Corvette. Also have searched for GTO’S and TBSS but havent found any to look at.
I’ve been focusing moslty on cars with LS engines but now I’ve found another car that interests me, a 2007 300c SRT8. It isn’t a manual as they didn’t make them, but could still be fun. Any experiences with them or things to look for? The car is slightly high miles ~100k.

Don’t forget about the Magnum SRT8 too!

My dad used to have a 2006 300C and with that all I’m gonna say is Chrysler suspension.

Is a G8 GXP outside your budget?

Have you considered the forgotten gem Cadillac STS V?

What about the first gen CTS-V? Manual only and most likely better build quality as well.

I haven’t! I just haven’t found one to check out, not sure how many there are around or their price

I’ve heard they are not very reliable/have expensive problems so I have stayed away so far.

I just drove one, slowly and not for long but it was very stiff and rough

Sadly yes or I’d already have one.

I do have dibs when someone I know sells their Non-V STS of the same body style, but I haven’t checked out the V. My budget is lo wish for cars like this, that’s why I was mostly looking at Camaros, Trans Ams, and 04 GTO’s.

Stiff, rough suspension that likes to eat ball joints for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Have you considered a Mercedes? It’s pretty easy to find a CLK500 that’s only 10 years old for under 13000. I also think they are aging decently and not ridiculous in maintenance. I wouldn’t trust an AMG in that range though.

I’ll take a look at them, maintenance and issues sound expensive because Mercedes ya know?

I’ve owned my SRT8 about 3 years. I have kind of a love hate relationship with it. When it’s running, it’s a joy to drive fast. When it’s not, it is always expensive. I was in a similar position as you about 3 years ago. I had a list of V8 sedans I wanted to test drive. Everything from mid 2000’s Q45s to G8s. I ended up with The Big Girl. The early LX platform cars are not nimble cars; they are cruisers. The SRTs handle a bit better and are stiffer than the RTs and SXTs, but still they are not especially nimble. I have never had any trouble with the front end nor have I heard that any of the local mopar guys I know having any trouble with it. I have heard of a local guy throwing a rod, but he was running a quart or 2 low on oil. I have also heard about another local guy blowing up his rear end at the track. The issue I have had have been big ticket mechanical engine issues. I had a lifter fail that caused a lot the damage to the top of the block. It didn’t help that I drove it for 2 weeks with a destroyed roller. I ended up having the whole top end rebuilt and adding some heavy duty lifters. About 8 months after that, I had an exhaust valve spring break. Luckily what was left of the spring held the valve enough to keep it from dropping. I have since replaced them with titanium springs and retainers. I’m not telling you to not buy one. I think you should. I think the SRT8s are great looking cars and are much more rare than GTO’s and Camaros. Everyone I have ever given a ride in it is shocked by how comfortable it is and how fast it is.(truth be told it has a lot of mods under the hood). If you buy one, please get the springs replaced.

Thank you for your advice, I am adding it to my searching. After driving one it was way different from anything else I have driven and it was something I liked. If I end up with one I won’t do too much in the way of adding power but I’ll do the springs if I touch anything

Awesome what did you drive? Also check LXFORUMS.com. They have a great for sale section. Its where I got The Big Girl. Also ask around the forum. See what people have issues with. Oppo is not really a MOPAR friendly place. Better to get info from LXFORUM.

I went on a short test drive in a stock 07 SRT8 300C really just to get feel for how stiff it was and the general fit. I did’t get to get on the gas much at all. I’ll check the forum out, I havent heard of it before.
