EDIT: Forgot to mention that the fender is NOT lining up with the door or the A pillar or the hood now...
Okay here is the car!
Note: I didn’t cause this!
The car here is a 2008 Chrysler 300 Touring with 110k miles
Front fender was pushed into the hood... hood is now bent down. Will this require replacing the whole hood?
That little area of frame is also bent... the paint on it is cracked in one spot all the way across
The bumper is cracked too... and it ripped all the wiring harness connectors out of the sockets
I don’t think any of the suspension was damaged either
All parts would be replaced with new parts. How much would it cost (approximately)?
Also, the house damage would be going on the same insurance claim...

About $2,500-$4,000 damage probably depending on who you go to for repairs. Probably not a write off.

Hm, if it is written off I might give my mom the Jetta and get a Miata or something...
if not I guess I keep my Sportwagen :)

Not totaled, $3056, $3556 if the shop waives your deductible.

That seems right - the bumper and fender are probably $2k, add the hood, add whatever’s wrong with the frame in that spot, and you’ll push past $3k, fairly expensive, but probably not enough to total it.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:13 |

That would be an infinite decrease in practicality.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:13 |

$2146.39

Going off of when we hit a deer that did similar damage, im going to go around >4k
Shouldn’t total it; they haven’t become that cheap yet
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:16 |
|
Wait, what are dollar values for? The prices of repair?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:16 |
|
Why such a specific number?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:17 |
|
This one is worth around probably $9k or so... so that wouldn’t total it? No chance at all?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:17 |

I’m a specific guy.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:18 |

The right tool for the job?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:19 |

As long as its mechanically ok, id be shocked if they did.
Id say honestly 5% chance of it getting totaled
depends on your insurance
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:19 |

I’d wager 20 clams that it’s totaled
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:19 |

How bad is the house? Looks like it just scraped part of the flashing and door jamb - a little paint and wood filler might take care of it. Or is it more extensive than it appears in the photo?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:20 |

USAA, going to a top shop... in other words expensive!
As far as I know it should be fine mechanically... although it may have actually hit the front tire :/
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:22 |
|
Why is that? And how much is 20 clams worth? About half a salmon?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:23 |
|
Broke the wood, scraped the trim (not sure if they want to repair or replace, its vinyl) and bent the little garage door sensor
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:27 |
|
Sooooo ….. who hits their own house?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:27 |

My experience with insurance companies is that the car will be undervalued and so your repairs will be much closer to this so-called value and be totaled. My [car years ago] was easily worth 5k years ago when it was totaled, but [company x] said it was only worth 2500 and the damages were 2800 so it was totaled.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:30 |

So did they just gun it in reverse while backing out? Or was it too late too tight and they had to finish the scrape (been there done that)?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:30 |
|
not at liberty to answer that... (She said she’d kick my ass if I told anyone... and she is younger than me)
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:31 |
|
Gunned it in reverse with the wheel slightly turned... forgot to hit the brake pedal and hit the gas instead
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:33 |
|
Oh, well it has been in two previous accidents... one a week after we bought the car that did $8k in damage (new hood, bumper, fenders, etc)
Second involving a ladder @60MPH (new bumper, fog lights, underbelly tray, alignment)
Do you see a pattern here?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:33 |
|
Well. Make sure the official story is changed to “avoided long line of ducklings that came out of nowhere.”
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:34 |
|
But my mother already called the insurance company... and the claim involves the damage to the garage
also with a $500 deductible
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:35 |
|
Yes, but since I don’t know you well enough to comment, I will just say that it should be replaced with something smaller, underpowered, and manual.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:37 |

She probably didn’t know that ducks are mentioned in USAA’s Accident Forgiveness Program.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:40 |
|
Yeah, likely on the high side. I'd rather loose the game and you ( or them) have to pay less, but I wouldn't be surprised if any trip to the body shop was over $2K
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:41 |
|
Well, I don’t ever drive it... I drive my Sportwagen (with a TDI and a manual)
If it is totaled I’ll give the Sportwagen to my mom and try to buy a Miata (or maybe even JayhawkJake’s CRX!)
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:42 |
|
No I don’t think they’ll total the house.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:43 |
|
Oh yeah, its going to a top of the line body shop... its going to be expensive
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:43 |
|
Damnit *facepalm*
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:44 |

I meant I didn’t want to pass harsh judgment on your friend. If she was involved in all 3 accidents... There can’t be much else to say.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:47 |
|
Ah, I thought it looked like aluminum for some reason.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:47 |
|
Oh no, sister hit the house (shes 16), mom was in the other two accidents
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:49 |
|
Dont think so
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:51 |
|
Well I ain’t about to say Jack shit about someone else’s mother. As for your sister, eh, I don’t remember being perfect when I was 16 either.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 21:52 |
|
worst I did was back into the trashcan with my car when I was 14... never did anything other than take a clearcoat pen to the scratch lol
![]() 05/17/2015 at 22:01 |
|
Ha, well maybe some more driving/parking lessons would be time well spent.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 22:08 |
|
Eh, it was an honest mistake... sort of
![]() 05/17/2015 at 22:36 |
|
No frame damage, not totaled. No matter how much you might want it to be, it isn’t.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 22:45 |
|
Eh fine by me... The fender is pushed into the good though... And it doesn’t line up with the a pillar or door anymore...
What could this be?
![]() 05/17/2015 at 23:13 |
|
About $5 for a roll of duct tape if you already own a hammer, or $25 if you don’t own a hammer. It’s a ten-ish-year-old 300. It may not be fully worth the repair cost and effort anyway.
![]() 05/17/2015 at 23:24 |
|
KBB has it at $9600 in non-wrecked condition... parents’ insurance has a $500 deductible... they want it fixed so its getting fixed (or totaled)
![]() 05/18/2015 at 00:25 |
|
Sounds like a good deal if only $500 OOP versus $4K.
![]() 05/18/2015 at 00:27 |
|
I think the deductible also covers the house but I’m not sure
![]() 05/18/2015 at 02:48 |

That garage seems very well built. But then again, it was hit by a mid-2000s chrysler product. Thats like an egg hitting a brick wall.
![]() 05/18/2015 at 10:04 |
|
Well, its partially because the outside is a brick wall
![]() 05/18/2015 at 10:29 |
|
uh... it’s warped..... cut fender, replace with new fender.
![]() 05/18/2015 at 12:00 |

Eh, whatever. Either way its on the back of my dad’s trailer on the way to the body shop right now
