My CRX was missing the covers for the brake and clutch pedal. Picked up new ones at autozone and oreillys for $5 each
Yes, I know it’s downright filthy inside. I’m planning on getting a steamer to clean it good soon. Also thinking of getting carpeted floor mats.
Anyways, back to the pedal covers. Finding them at autozone was like pulling teeth. I didn’t know where they were in the store so I asked an employee.
“I need brake pedal covers for my Honda”
“Do you know the part number?”
“Uh no. They are just a Doorman part, pedal covers”
“For the front?”
“What? Yeah? I mean, they go on the pedals”
“What motorcycle is this?”
“No it’s a Honda CRX. Pedal covers. Like for the pedals. Rubber pieces that cover the pedals”
“Oh, let’s go look”
-_-
Found one, it was the only one they had. Guy told me to go across the street to oreillys for the other, so I did.
I was in a bit of a rush because this is coming
In other news, I replaced the dry rotted rear tires at Tires Plus this morning.
Had an exchange that has become so common it’s just funny. Went to the car with the tech because he wanted to show me that my tie rod should be replaced (more on that later) and he comments “this thing looks really nice! Usually they are ruined or modded”
He showed me the tie rod issue. Front left tire rockes back and forth a bit. He then said ‘the good news is your wheel bearings are fine. Normally those are ruined cause people race these’
I didn’t have the heart to tell him I’m autocrossing it tomorrow...I’m not too worried about the tie rod at autox. If it hasn’t snapped off or anything I doubt it will out there. Wheel bearings are more of an issue as far as I know
Anyways, they gave me a quote on the tie rod replacement: $200ish for parts and labor then $85 for an alignment
I’m a bit annoyed by it. I just got an alignment and the shop didn’t say anything to me. Or maybe they did? On the phone he said something about something being out and costing $300 to replace, but I though he was talking about the rear alignment.
Either way, pretty sure $200 for parts and labor on a tie rod is absurd. A quick Google shows it's a simple thing to replaced, at least the outer one, and I doubt it's an expensive part. Guess I'll think about replacing it soon.

Any bites yet trying to sell it?

That’s a massive price for a tie rod. The last one I did cost a grand total of £15.

Probably easier than steam cleaning the carpet is to just replace it. I put fresh carpet (pre-formed to the shape of the car’s interior) in my CRX for IIRC less than $200 in materials and maybe 3-4 hours of work.

Maybe, but steam cleaning it is cheaper, and I can use a steamer to clean other stuff.

I just ordered a new outer tie rod end for $15. Could have been even cheaper, the cheapest one was like $10 but I figured might as well spend another five for a quality part. Installation shouldn’t take more than an hour.
If the inner rod needs replacing, that's another $15 part and a little more work, but still not $200 worth.

I haven’t really tried to sell it. Mentioned it on oppo and told some friends that it’s available. I like it, and I’m not in a hurry to get rid of it. I’ll probably keep it all summer.

Yeah I really don’t understand where $200 came from. I’ve done a ball joint, spring and anti roll bar link for less than that.

I told someone else that I could probably replace an entire corner’s components for less than $200

That is very true. My CRX had 20 years of mystery stains and while they were not particularly aromatic, I certainly felt a lot better about the car after I swapped out the carpets.

Front shock from a decent company are £40 for my car, £15 for tie rod, £8 for anti roll bar link. If you ignore the upright and wishbone you could change almost everything on a corner for less than $200 easily.

Oh nice, glad you're enjoying it
