So the timing belt tensioner failed, which let the timing belt slip, which bent all the valves—one camshaft ended up being out of phase with the other camshaft by 180º. So the car is getting abandoned here in Pennsyltucky and we’re renting a car in Buffalo NY to get back to Denver. Someone in the area wanna buy a 2000 CR-V (auto trans) that needs timing done and all new valves?

Interior in great shape, just detailed. Professionally maintained its whole life. Nothing wrong with it (aside from the small engine issues) $500 obo

...are things I’d imagine I could post in an ad on craigslist. But seriously, does anyone wanna buy it for cheap? It’s in great shape except for the engine. No rust (spent 90% of its life in Seattle and Boulder). 113866 miles on the clock and 40k miles on the tires (tires have a DOT code from 2011). We need to get rid of it so either we’re abandoning it/donating it or someone can buy it from my friend. Comment if interested. Seriously. We’re ditching the car tomorrow night. Let me know.

Where does one abandoned it? Just goes to show rtf (run till failure) is no way to run a car.

Proof that not all Hondas are extremely reliable.

It’s only worth scrap value. Just get it to the closest junkyard. The belt should’ve been changed at 90k.

Now that it needs a new engine, it’s the perfect time for a B18C swap!

Maybe it should be replaced with a Focus ZX5 or wagon (but *not* the SVT), or an Escape/Tribute. They have non-interference engines. If the t-belt breaks, it won’t bend the valves.

The Matrix/Vibe is an interference engine, but it has a timing chain instead of a belt.

Wow I am sorry. Eerie, PA ay? I know it well because I always look at the road signs with a scowl whenever I have to make the painful drive through that boring fucking square to get anywwhere else in America and where I get all my speeding tickets because its so fucking boring. No offense to PA residents

A few hours more you would’ve at least made it to Watkins Glen, which wouldhave been fantastic for you. Again, I am sorry you had to break down in the most boring of all states. But at least you’ll be back in my favorite state and future/ former residence, CO!

The belt was done at 65k. 5 years ago. It’s the tensioner that failed but was ignored until catastrophic failure

If anyone wants the car, my friend would let it go for a small sum of money. We need to do something with the car. No one is interested?

If this was manual, I’d be all over it.

Exactly what I was thinking, B18 swap time! I used to live in Erie, too. If I still did, I would jump on this.

Are you near Erie?

No, not really. I know you guys are in a spot, but you might consider dropping it on the local CL while you are still in the area. You might get a quick bite and sale.

That’s a good plan. If you want to get out to us by tomorrow around 6pm eastern time, we could sell you the car for a couple hundred. Then you’d have to rebuild the engine and sell it (or keep it). You could profit a couple thousand dollars on it. We just have to get rid of it ASAP. Best deal right now is to donate it to a charity.... So if my friend could get any money for it, he’d be happy.

Well when you put it that way, yeah true, and other than Vermont I think they host the most scca hillclimbs.

I live in Ithaca NY, abouts 45 minutes north of the PA border, so like driving there is pretty much the very boring, avg 4 hour starting line of any trip I have to make elsewhere in the country.

Just driving down 81 to get to nyc, DC , Va or w VA where my friend went to college is all mind numbing. Heheh so when I see that Erie, PA sign its Pennsylvania’s way of telling me “fuck you for another 3 hours out, or 3 hours back home.”

Oh ok. I am about an hour north and slightly east of the northern terminus of I-81. ON 416 is the most boring highway I regularly drive. It’s only about 60 miles long, but there’s no anything along it. You know...towns...gas stations....nothin. lol.
