(Referring to the last generation Murano) Do you think anyone went out and said, “I’m going to buy a Murano!” It just seemed like such a strange, undesirable car.

Moms who wanted one of these:
but couldn’t afford them so settled for something that looked similar, because if it looks the same, then it must be the same.

I’d take the previous gen over the new POS. You know the saying “gets better with age” ? Yeah that doesn’t apply to this one because the longer the Murano nameplate is in production the uglier it gets. As seen by the new gen:

Yup. My wife did. She really liked it, and it was a very pleasant vehicle to own. Well, except for the head gasket biting the dust at only 30k miles. Thankfully, under warranty. From time to time, she still mentions missing that car. A coworker of hers owned one and that’s what drove her to look at one.

My friend’s dad had one. It was okay. Replaced it with an XC60.

When those first came out in 2006-ish, they were a pretty hot commodity apparently. Last few model years you bought one because the dealer gave you a good deal or something.

Really? I like the new one better. The interior is much nicer.

I guess this is the target market. We had one for a rental car once. It seemed nice enough. What trim does your mom have?

My in laws did even though I tried to convince them into an escape cause that’s all they really needed, 3 years later they realized my wife and I were right. Not to mention they got screwed by the dealer

What did she move on to?

My mom doesn’t have a Murano if that’s what you’re suggesting.

Aw, that’s too bad. The escape is a better car for them?

I've heard that too! But remember, the PT cruiser was a hot commodity at one point too.

The interior is much nicer but that exterior is just scary. Too many zigs and zags everywhere for my liking.

Oops, misread that. What does your mom drive?

At least it dares to be different. It's distinctive.

Yeah they didn’t need something as big as the Murano and an escape titanium with awd was about 5-10 grand cheaper than their fully loaded murano. Now they both agree they should have gotten the escape so we are trying to get them to trade it in while it still has some value left

2010 RX350 AWD, one of the very few built in Japan and not Canada.

Which is much better because Volvo. :D

Agreed. But the last gen Murano did have that hideous front end:
I thought I would get used to it after seeing them everywhere. I didn’t.

Actually, my mom has. Like 2 or 3 times. I've managed to talk her down every time.

We bought a 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland back in December 2013. She really likes the Jeep.

Bought an ‘03 (1st gen) last year. It’s fully loaded so it’s nice. I thought it was ugly when it was first released but I’m starting to see the French styling details from the Renault partnership which helps. I honestly wouldn’t have picked it if it wasn’t the best car for the best price at the time, but I definitely don’t regret it (aside from the accursed xtronic CVT)
