Looked so nice, sans bumpers (and Hella driving lights up front). Almost needed them, with how slow he was shifting to 2nd. Hyundai almost rear ended him.

Probably. Even the quickest double clutch upshift will throw off morons in traffic behind you who are expecting torque converter like fluid acceleration.
