It seems like an appropriate time to bring this post back.
It has been a long time since the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Love it, hate it, you decide!
Thanks to /r/Stance, /o/ and Stancenation for the pictures!
What is your favourite?
What do you think?

I don't like any of these but you're doing God's own work posting these here so keep it up!

My favorite is this one:

I like some of those. I've actually driven a lowered Abarth, and I'm pretty sure you would hate to drive that anywhere but the track. You feel EVERYTHING when a car with such a short wheelbase is lowered.

Half of these are not stance. Of the other half, half are 8/10 not stance, a bit more fender room and they too would not be stance.
the last 25% though,

Love those wheels! We had a '86 Caprice Wagon when I was a kid. My dad bought a set of those wheel for it and an LT1 to swap in it. About a week before it was to go into the shop to transform into Vettewagon, my mom got into an accident and it was totaled.

I'm not a stance guy, so most of these look stupid to me. But I would rock this thing all day long, and into the night. I'll also take the Chevy 1500WT because why not, and the Mitsu Lancer for the crazy body kit.

I know that, I drive along with my uncle sometimes, and he drives a lowered Seat Arosa. Its like a bouncy castle inside.

It’s a dirty job, but somebody’s got to do it. (I love gathering all these so no problem)

If half of these aren’t stance, then what are they?

That would have been amazing! Has your dad done any other crazy swaps?

I don’t understand this at all.
This can’t be fun to drive. You spend all your time dodging pot holes and if you take a corner too fast you’ll pop the bead off the rim.

It is to take it to the limit, to outperform others in this.
Like this Celica owner:
Kawashima: No, it’s not finished! As for the look, there’s three main points of the way modified cars should look (in Japan), and that’s onikyan (cambered wheels), tsuraichi (tyres just barely inside the guards) and hippari (stretched tyres). I wanted to make a car that took all of those things to the furthest point I’ve ever seen them done.
Finished:

On Tuesday night, at our Autocross event, there was a stances 240sx. Camber, stretched tires, the whole deal. Had quite the turbo too, from what I could hear of the spoiling and BOV.
My stock FR-S on its piddley Prius tires was faster.

He had an ‘84 Caprice sedan as a company car. Came with a 305 which ate itself. He took it to his friend’s shop and they put in a “remanufactured engine”, and by that I mean a built 350 with a roller cam, making about 400HP. He had the trans rebuilt to handle the power and shift harder, and put some 3.73s and a posi in the rear. I remember shortly after he got it back from the shop, he stayed home for something and was going in to work late. I was 3 at the time, and I was standing in the front door waving goodbye as he left. Well he got out onto the street and just hammered down. It was loud, and there was smoke, so I started running through the house screaming “MOM, MOOOOOOM, DADS CAR’S ON FIRE!!!!!” So she came running, in her bathrobe out onto the lawn, to find my dad doing a massive burnout down the street in front of our house.
We have another project, a Chevy Tahoe, that’s been stuck in development hell for the last few years. It’s mostly a time and money issue, always seem to come up short on one or the other. But I’m handling powertrain on that - we’re looking at an LY6 out of a Silverado (think LS3 but with an iron block) with a cam and headwork, should be making around 500HP. To start. I want it because it will handle quite a bit of boost. So once we get the rest of the truck the way we want, it’s going to get a hair dryer and aim for at least 800HP.

Nope, the man’s never owned a dedicated race car in his life. But he’s had a few that definitely should have been.

street/strip then? For real, where else are you going to uncork an 800 hp truck?
![]() 05/14/2015 at 16:47 |
|
Wherever I want?
It is getting a full setup - 4 link out back, 9” rear, big brakes all the way around, mini-tubs, etc. It will be the business, so pretty much a street/strip setup. And I’m sure we’ll take it somewhere and make a pass before we get thrown out for not having a cage. But it will have a boost controller so we can tone it down on the streets.

WANT!
![]() 05/15/2015 at 10:30 |

Eh, you should put a roll bar and a driveshaft loop in it anyway, doesn't l0ok like it would take too much to
keep the NHRA happy
as long as you keep the boost down so the ETs are over 10
![]() 05/15/2015 at 10:48 |
|
Definitely incorporating a drive shaft loop. We don’t need that thing coming up through the floor. We are still sitting the fence on roll bar. I guess we’ll see how things progress. We’re still trying to get the suspension and brakes sorted though, and that may take a while.

Cool. I expect a smoky burnout video by the end of the summer...
What are you doing, parallel 4 link with a panhard or triangulated upper links?
![]() 05/15/2015 at 12:07 |
|
End of summer of what year? Hahaha
We’re going to be doing triangulated upper links.
The big hold up right now is brakes and wheels. The truck is a ‘97, which came with the 5x5” lug pattern. There’s very few wheel options in that size, and even fewer brakes. The problem is that the brake rotor is also wheel hub - it’s a weird setup but all the wheel bearings and everything are contained within the one piece rotor/hat. We have been experimenting with adapting hubs off of a Chevelle or something similar, and having the flanges re-drilled to whatever pattern we want. We also looked at custom made spindles that use the newer style bolt in wheel bearing/hub assemblies. Still up in the air about this.
If we can change it, dad is thinking of going to a 5x120mm (I think, need to check my notes) pattern and run some 5th Gen Camaro 20” wheels and the CTS-V brakes (those rotors and calipers are stupid cheap through GM Parts). So we shall see.
