Applied for a job at the nearby BMW manufacturing plant and during the medical evaluation it was discovered that I have carpal tunnel in both hands to the point where they recommended surgery. I knew I had symptoms but didn’t realize it was that severe. Obviously I didn’t get the job- moreover, the doctor placed some pretty strict work restrictions on me until I can afford said surgery, meaning I’m probably going to lose my current job and now have even LESS options when it comes to finding another one.

Man, I have a fucking family to support. I don’t know what I’m going to do...

I hear QuikTrip is hiring... :-/

Uber driver?

Also, isn’t this the first year Americans are mandated to have health insurance?

Perhaps at the moment, but they will be going up to a percentage of your income.

I got engaged to a wonderful lady-Desu with two sons who happen to both be autistic.

Sadly, I don’t think she’d be okay with moving all the way to Maine. Were I a single man, though, I’d probably take you up on it though, haha.

Not that it helps your situation or makes the op cost easier to swallow, but carpal tunnel surgery is pretty routine these days. Often back to work within 2 weeks.

I can’t afford it, though. Nor can I afford health insurance (not even Obamacare). We’re on a very tight budget at home and we’re all pretty stressed about this right now.

Has the state you live in expanded Medicaid?

Mind me asking what an estimate of the cost of surgery would be?

I’m really sorry to hear about your situation, I’m located near Greenville as well. If you do find yourself looking for a new job, I’d at least look into Furman University. I don’t know if you have any specialized skills, but alot of their maintenance and landscaping positions are in-house. From my understanding they also have great employee benefits. Aramark controls the food services on campus and has a really high turnover rate between school years. I’ll let you know if I think/hear of anything else. I’m sorry I’m not able to help you maintain you’re current employment.

The way I see it, you can’t afford NOT to do it ASAP. The quicker you get the issue resolved, the quicker you can get back to getting work in construction/concrete.

The money does not exist. We have no savings. We barely manage to pay the bills. There is no way to get the surgery aside from finding a new job, with a benefits package, that doesn’t aggravate the carpal tunnel and get on their insurance and THEN get the surgery.

This is a situation where, as much as I hate it, I’m going to have to be patient.

I’m not sure if South Carolina has ‘expanded’ Medicaid- all I know is I don’t qualify. :-/

I hope you find a new job quickly and are then able to get the carpal tunnel fixed up soon.

Ouch. Maybe you should start a GoFundMe. I’ve seen others do that for medical issues.

And if you’re the type that hates receiving charity, then tell the people that you only want to borrow the money and then pay it back when you can or pay it forward by donating it to someone else in need.

Damn.. You know, sometimes I wish I was properly rich, so I could help good people out when they need it. All I can do now is say, that if you would start a GoFundMe like someone suggested, I would happily donate some of my vacation pay.
