I’m looking for excessive size and obnoxious styling on a car with no need for downforce (if the wing even makes any). Let’s get grounded to the ground, people! Think Superbird size wing on a Voyager.

ETA: nvm. Didn’t read and comprehend.

It’s so tiny, how do they possibly expect it to do anything?

literally only used for the third brake light because the trunk was too low in relation to the rear window. On the earlier models it made the front light at speed.

Hahaha but it sure looks cool!

It pains me to say this because I own one, but I really doubt the efficacy of the spoiler on AW11 MR2s

Superbird size wing on a Voyager?
Delivered!

This has to be in the running for ridiculous wings that do nothing:

why do you think the owner bought the Aston in the first place? Heyo!

Are there any NuBeetle variants with a factory spoiler? Very stupid and pointless spoilers seems to crop up on them a lot, but I don’t know if any are factory...

You my friend would be incorrect! This is long, but well worth a watch.
A lot of people think that if a wing doesn’t produce downforce it’s useless, but a lot of them simply reduce lift which is just as useful :)

My inner pedant says that’s a spoiler, not a wing, but I agree on the uselessness.

Well actually it does serve a purpose. It was specially designed to work in tandem with the active front lip spoiler that MkIVs came with. It only provides a stabilizing effect when the front spoiler is deployed and vice-versa the front lip spoiler is useless when the wing is removed, so it was deactivated on cars delivered with a wing delete.
Fun fact: the MkIVs aero package was illegal in Switzerland so most swiss models were delivered with the wing delete and immobilized front spoiler.

Completely worthless, wobbles in the wind at speed, now that’s GM Performance!

I don’t know what it is about this car. It still says Ultimate Super Car Ever Conceived Of to me. Still espousing the Lamborghini values of 1) Top speed 2) Acceleration 3) Obnoxious looks very well.

The one on the Mercury Mystique always amused me. Knowing Ford build quality from that era, I think it’s for keeping the trunk lid down.

1GNuBeetles of the turbo persuasion had active spoilers at the top of the hatch-roof area.

Theres too many to list foxbody. Also not sure why you put the Plymouth Superbird as your title photo. A photo of the back of a Acura TSX with their poor excuse for a spoiler would have sufficed.

90% sure we also didn’t get the active aero in the US

Gotta get some imaginary downforce to contain that VTAK

I like the superbird? I have a soft spot for superbly absurd homologation specials.

Yo.

Considering that a mildly breathed on Supra can make 500whp and heaps of torque, that wing isn’t so useless; in 3rd gear at WOT, the lightly modified car is accelerating fast enough to break traction but going fast enough for the spoiler to produce enough additional downforce to combat that. I think it worked in conjunction with the front retractable air dam.

Depends. Have you ever come across one with a front spoiler like this?
