From the back at a distance I mistook it for a Toyota Avalon am I crazy?
I hate comparing designs of cars but man I should never mistake a Maserati for a Toyota

I’ve never mistook one for any thing else. Took me a while to differentiate between a Giblet and a Quattroporte from a distance, though. I work in an area where these things are everywhere. And there’s a Maserati dealership right down the road.

At a glance, no.
From the front: Mustang Sedan!
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

I’ve mistaken several of them for kias, so no.

I’m in the happy position of having no idea what an Avalon is but the Ghibli is certainly very generic looking from the back.
Edit; that was the Avalon I was looking at! Still applies though.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who calls it a Giblet.

Ehh, I see a ton of them and I can’t mistake them for anything else. One of my neighbors even bought one of the first ones when they came out in January 2014. They’re cheaper than most 5-series so people want the prestigious name.
They’re just not very “quality controlled.” In other words, they’ve been very problematic.

Ok, maybe the Cadenza looks suspiciously similar.

I feel like the Avalon looks better from the back when you take away the badges, more refined at least. Does that make me crazy?

It’s an alright name, but my phone auto corrected it to Gilbert at first, so it had to be done. I’m just glad the didn’t name it Euro-style, Maserati G23-S rolls off the tongue even less.

Totally unsurprising on the reliability front.
I quite like its proportions though. If you had a Lexus RX and wanted something else to go cavorting infrequently, it’s not a bad choice.

But that’s legit though, those are both luxury sedans.
The Ghibli looking like a moderately cheap japanese old person mover ain’t good man, it’s not good.

I thought it was a kia from the back at one point.
whilst i usually LOVE maseratis designs, they REALLY stuffed it with the rear of this car.
