Turns out someone down the street is selling an Audi A4 wagon.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Given the condition of their other vehicles (and their taste in vehicles), it seems like it is in very good condition. My only concerns are:
Fuel economy
German Engineering.™
I’m more fearful of the latter. It seems like the steps needed to repair any German car go something like:
Order part from online retailer. Wait for part to arrive.
Disassemble front end.
Discover that you need some special tool. Call around to all the tool rental places and discover that no one rents it out. Order tool online. Reassemble front end. Wait for tool to arrive.
Disassemble front end again. Replcae broken part using special tool. Reassemble front end.
Look at total cost of repair. Weep.
Drive car fearfully while waiting for something else to break.
Do I just have an irrational fear of German Engineering™?

You pretty much have it nailed, though the VW dealer here is pretty good for lending tools as long as you buy the part from there.
Wish that guy would message me back about the MR2 in Classics

your fear is NOT irrational.
as an Audi parts person , i’ll say this , RUN!
keep your money in your pockets!

Run.

Given that you work as an Audi parts person, is there any other brands/marques that you would recommend?

Was it the $600 MR2? If so, I called the guy. He’d already sold it, but couldn’t figure out how to take the ad down. I really should have called him on the Saturday as opposed to waiting until Monday.
You mentioned in another post that you knew of some lower-cost TIG welding equipment. Care to divulge? Also, I’ve got a friend (not me - honest!) who is looking for an inexpensive MIG welder. If you know of any, feel free to let me know.

I haven’t had that problem on my car, but my uncle’s Phaeton has been a nightmare. It’s a notoriously complicated car though.

Ya it was, I figured it was sold, but thought I would try anyway. That was a pretty sweet car for 600 or even a 1000.
Did I? Was looking on Kijiji but couldn’t find much that wasn’t built in the 40’s. A couple more got posted recently though. I already have more tools than garage space, needs more room!

I’ve looked around on Kijiji as well, and there doesn’t seem to be much out there. I’m thinking I really should give my uncle a call. He’s a welder by trade, and might know of some equipment for sale.
Just be thankful you have a garage. Right now any work I do has to be outside on a gravel parking spot.

Ya, knowing people is likely the best bet. Wonder if the city does an auctions on old stuff. Or if there is any auctions around that aren’t for cattle.
My garage is basically junk storage right now, but now its junk storage with lights!

Don’t do it. I’m an Audi apologist, but the B6 is an unmitigated POS. Although the 3.0 is a much better option than the 1.8T.

However, is not brown, manual, diesel, or Miata. Is not Jalop

That doesn’t bother me. A family hauler doesn’t necessarily need to be Jalop.

It’s a tad overpriced. Looks super clean though, and the 3.0 is a very good engine. Good power, nice sound and pretty reliable. Don’t listen to pip bip.

Subaru , only if non EJ motor .
realistically , Ford & GM are better.
Mazda , Mitsubishi , Nissan.
