Entertain me here, just for a moment. My sister has a rather unhealthy obsession with the 2010 GT500, and as such I would like to make a birthday card for her with the names of 100 cars that are way cooler. This card will be tied to her present which is a rather nice 1:12 scale model of a GT500, because I’m not that much of a dick. Oppo is where all the cool cats hang, so suggestions please!

You say that, but those 911’s running around rally stages are just retrofitted circuit GT3 cars. The Stratos is rallying supercar through and through. It’s why if I want to provoke the Dubai Police, I’ll be driving one. Well, kit Stratos, yes, but it will have a twin-charged PPRE 26B rotary engine.

You can also say that everything can be rallied if you’re brave, nutty, and smart enough, and I’ll back you up on that, but no other supercar has gotten the same rally cred as the Stratos. Only one other car can beat it.

You say that, but I don’t consider a car purpose built for one job versatile. The Stratos was purpose built for rallying. Nothing else. The 911 however was not purpose built for rallying. It was a road car first. But because of its unique layout it proved to be very competitive both on and off road, while still being a car one could actually live with. The 911 won multiple GT championships, it won the Rallye Montecarlo just as many times as the Stratos did, the 911 won the Rallye Paris-Dakar, the Stratos didn’t. The only area where the Stratos actually beats the 911 are WRC victories, but as far as I know Porsche never seriously bothered with a factory WRC team. The 911 has been a competing in all sorts of rallyes for over 50 years now, the Stratos competed for eight. I give you that the Stratos was more successful during the time it did compete though, but overall it doesn’t come close to the 911. The Stratos was a Rallye prototype tamed for the road, the 911 is a road car that just so happens to be a great track and rallye car as well. Again tell me which one is the more versatile.

My dad’s been working on it off and on while I’ve been getting the Citroen on the road. He’s replaced all the rubber fuel hoses, the old manky fuel filter and rewired the pump so you can now hear it priming. Still not starting though, so we’re working through spark and compression now, as well as checking to see if it’s actually moving fuel to the engine.

I hear you might be putting up Ramblin Rover for a little while when he comes over later this month. What’s the plan with him?

Honestly, I think she has good taste. My wife's dream cars are a 1967 GT500 (not because of Gone in 60 Seconds), and a modern GT500, though she prefers the 2005-2008? body style, I prefer the 2012-2014, plus 662hp. The info about the 1967 came shortly after we met, and turned her sexiness off the charts.

Kudos to her, and help her foster that obsession, haha.

Well she should also like the GT350 then muddyfeet. Its a little easier on the eyes and the wallet. But its cool that she likes cars (considering its still hard to move women from the perception of only men liking cars)
